It depends on the purpose. PM is a private medium for messaging someone. VMs are usually more casual for me.

Depends upon person, whether I want things to be displayed to everyone or not and type of message. I generally use VM, if it is casual talk, but sometimes I may take it to PM.

PMs. People always wanna talk about some private shit with me on VMs that I don't want many people to know about me Lol I feel like my friends are trying to loud cap me when they say some of the things they do in my VMs.

If I get too many VMs at the same time with other notifications, some of the VMs get buried and I unintentionally overlook them. I still have the notification if I haven't read the PM.

And other people read your convos with other people, so VMs are mostly for small talk.
