Videos compression

I wanted some software to compress the video files and make them as small as possible (real high compression ratio)..... although i would like not to loose quality ....something like a zipped file ....
was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction...

You can't have high compression and no loss of quality, but you can compromise.

You could also use Virtual Dub, but Gama already pointed in the right direction.
