as most people on here, your perception is surface only. It wasn't just that, he saw the power Naruto had and he believed in that as well, if Naruto was some weakling that Nagato could beat like hanzo, then he wouldn't trust him, but Naruto had the power, conviction and belief that he could change the world, and Nagato believed in that. So he sacrificed his life to revive the people who he killed in konoha and died to redeem himself. After speaking with Naruto, he was able to realize that his ways were wrong, there wasn't anyone up till then who resembled Nagato so much.
Nagato saw his younger self in Naruto, the younger self who tried to follow Jiraiya's teachings. Nagato spend all of his adult life dismissing these teachings and turning his back on the world because he had viewed it's pain far more than any other, and he alone had the power to change it.

Then he found naruto, and naruto spouted the same words he himself had turned his back on long ago. There's no reason this should have had a profound effect on him. To Nagato, this should have been more than evidence enough that the world was as broken as he had seen.

If Nagato's dreams could be changed by a child who believed what he did once, he would have never turned his back on those words in the first place.

You said he had a decade spanning plan, when that's not the case since the plan was not his. All the trio wanted to do was settle fights through democracy until yahiko died.
Nagato planned on forming a bijuu super weapon, to create a pseudo-Nuclear deterrent for the world, the same as we have in the real word. Did you forget that part?

Not even close to Obito's plan.

He was the first character being talked into consideration. But honestly he was the 2nd best villain after Obito. His plan and dream was solely peace and he tried as hard as he could to defeat Naruto. The battle between Pain and Naruto is one of the greatest Manga battles in history. And I don't see where the bad writing is here. He was bound to become good at some point, Naruto was clearly able to talk him into consideration making him actually trust in Naruto.
you have no idea how much i agree with you.

It would have been better if there was build up, but it was just the fact that Naruto suddenly walked up in there and spit some shit to Nagato and he changed his whole ideology in what was probably a 15 minute convo in the Narutoverse. I don't think it was bad at all, I actually liked it, but it could have been executed better.

Pain arc was the best arc in part 2 hands down

I agree with this.

It's like Nagato got lazy and decided he was done with the bullshit, and threw his responsibilities on a child he doesn't know and who doesn't even have a plan.

Go back and re-read
i don't need to because i watched the English Dub of the that Episode recently, also Obito is't known for telling the Truth to people for example he lied to Sasuke about his involvement in the Nine Tails Attack on the Hidden Leaf Village and that it was a random natural attack and Obito once said that Izuna died after giving Madara his eyes and when Obito told Konan that he encouraged Yahiko into making the Akatsuki that too is a Lie, so the Fact that Yahiko along side Nagato and Konan created the Akatsuki during the 3th Great Ninja War and this happened before Obito met Madara that's a Canon Fact.

.
He abandoned those dreams because he was betrayed, but he saw how strong Naruto was having those same beliefs. With his village destroyed and his friends killed, Naruto STILL refused to go down Nagato's path. Nagato was in the same boat as Naruto at that point in time, and they both shared the same pain. Both had no family, both villages completely destroyed, friends killed, and both suffered betrayal. Naruto could have easily broke like Nagato, but instead even after all that, he stuck to his teachings, and that is what inspired Nagato.

It's not bad writing that Nagato and Naruto had a lot of coincidences, probably the biggest of which was that Nagato inspired the book whose main character inspired Naruto's name.

When fans don't get the outcome they want, they criticize the mangaka.

Pain is a story of redemption, even if it takes a 16 year old boy and a book to see how far one has fallen... that's real. Addicts, criminals, and those suffering from depression have been lead to life change events (i.e turning over a new leaf a.k.a 180 degree shift) with far less.

That's good writing.
