[Theory] Vegapunk's "Failed" Devil Fruit

Ok so we know all DF users suffer from the curse of becoming a hammer in sea water.

Momo ate a DF that was produced by Vegapunk, yet it was implied that it was a "failure", at first I though it was that he wouldn't be able to turn human again, but that wasn't the case.

Also how is it that Vegapunk determined it was a failure when no one had tried it until now. My theory is that to determine if a DF is real, they place it on sea water to see if it would sink. Lets say this one didn't and so was deemed a failure.

So if the "failure" was actually that it was an "improvement" that could mean that Momo is immune to the curse.

Then he'd be able to rescue Luffy from the water and also transport him everywhere they go(could also be Zoro's nimbus).

Feel free to discuss whether you think Momo's fruit was indeed Vegapunk's and not CC's attempt to frame Vegapunk?

Whether Devil fruits sink of float on water?

And how exactly are devil fruits deemed failures by VPunk?

I like this theory... A lot actually. But I just don't see monks dad being down with this unless he was part of sh as we'll. maybe a 2 fer?

We don't know if vega punk tested it out on a candidate and deemed it a failure because it still had the curse (Never to swim/ sea water "kryptonight"") if in did it was tested by a candidate and failed he would have extracted it out of the body. Another reason why it may have been a "failure" is due to it's shape, power, and abilities....... Dragons are supposed to be big strong, and in some cases be fast, however given the dragon that the kid transforms into, it seems far from what poeple would be expecting.

i like the idea of him being able to swim in water, that'd be extremely unique in one piece, idk though it depends on what direction oda wants to take it

Not really, marines have bombs, canons, and devil fruit abilities that could effect water (example would be the Ice ice fruit that the admiral has, or the poison poison fruit that the warden of impel down has)
