Now we know that Yammamato stated that no shinigamii born in the past 1000 years was born stronger than him. Now this Vandenreich leader may just be on a power level similiar to the captain commander.
We know he's born over 1000 years ago, due to it being stated Yama failed to kill him 1k years ago, so he must of been strong enough to of survived an encounter with him, (and if he was let go, he was probably still very powerful)
Hes looking good for over 1000 years old, he looks similiar age to Shunsui and hes got at least 500 years on him
And hes the next bad ass boss, so hes gotta be able to whup some ass (he made harribel his prisoner)

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. I also have a theory that Yamamoto and the King's encounter and subsequent battle had something to do with Yamamoto becoming the Captain Commander.

We know that Yamamoto became Captain Commander 1000 years ago:

I hardly find this and the fact that Yama and the King having a battle during the same time period to be a coincidence.

Anyways, the King is obviously near Yamamoto in strength. Not only is he the leader of the Vandenreich, who are themselves strong, but he's over 1000 years old. It doesn't matter who you are. When you are that old and experienced you are bound to be insanely powerful.

I know, I was losing interest in bleack, but iits been saved now
I remember Rukia saying early on that people with powerful spiritual pressure live longer, thats why Yama is 2000 years old, so if a guy whos at least 1000 years old, has lived that long and looks so young, he must be packing a punch
