What exactly made the uzumaki clan so important to the leaf village? Seems odd that the uzumaki crest was placed on the back and sleeve of the leaf ninjas' chunin jackets rather than the senju symbol. Anyone have any idea as to why? Or any guesses

they were cousins in a way (uzumaki came from Senju bloodline). Senju seem to be all about peace and stability between different clans and countries. There Uzumaki-Senju relationship was just an extension of this.

The Uchiha clan would've protested the Senju's crest. Also, the Uzumaki sealed the kyuubi and every kyuubi jinchuuriki was an Uzumaki

Because they were the jinchuuriki for Kurama and Mito, Hashi's wife, was an Uzumaki.
