I think they were destroyed in the war.
As for kurama i think he was sealed in uzumaki village and when village was destroyed he was freed thats when madara got him.

There were no mention of them participating in a war.

The Uzumaki were a potential thread to the Juubi because of their sealing jutsu.
Also, it was said that other villages came to fear their sealing jutsu, that's why they were targeted. Madara must've had a hand in it, but I still think it was a joint effort.
