lol u r right it kinda looks like the whirlpool-sign of the uzumaki 
the only thing left are the sharingan-tomoe. it is the anchestor-version of the sharingan + the descandent of the rinnegan.
maybe there is more to it

They spiral eyes is probably the result of the different than usual drawing style employed for the Sage's two sons. But it could probably also just be a predecessor of the Sharingan.
Madara believes that the only people to have possessed the rinnegan was the SO6P, Nagato and himself. So, if Madara's right then the eyes of the Elder son can not be a rinnegan.

well my theory was: so6p had the rinnegan, he took over the juubi and the result was, that his genetics were messed up, like an evil curse and the late revange of the juubi, so the first son got a "cursed rinnegan", the later sharingan/ms/ems. (c'mon bleeding eyes for ms sucks )

Well i will say it is odd and i think it is worth reminding everyone that Nagoto was supposedly related to the uzumaki clan, which is odd in itself that he would get the rinnegon but you never know

so6p betrayed his wife back then and he had a 3rd bastard-son with another woman!
the 3rd son got the body and the eyes and thats why the uzumaki have this whirlpool-sign!!!

so the only thing uzumaki lack off are balls, they just dont have any balls, as u can see with naruto. Naruto has no balls, if he had he would kill sasugay.
