[Debate] USA and the Atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki

nearly,129,000 people died ,after USA dropped atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945...


-"Potsdam Declaration" stated that if Japan do not surrender, it would face "prompt and utter destruction."..(correct me if i'm wrong plz)..

My Question is: was bombing japan with atomic bombs the right Decision?....was it even necessary to use atomic bombs to achieve Victory in favor of usa??


-don't you think that Bombing japan with atomic Bombs has something to do with the cold war between U.R.S.S and USA,rather then forcing japan to surrender???

Germany was already losing, U.S. gave Japan a chance to surrender
Japan said no

Cold war is something completely different. What made the Cold War frightening is that both countries had nuclear weapons. The world couldve gone into nuclear warfare

I had a project on this last semester. I never really understood the circumstances that led to the use of the bomb until after my research which convinced me that blowing up non military territories wasn't the right decision. But then again the guys manipulating in the shadows had a point to prove and to end the war as quickly as possible. Truman who was president never even had a key voice in the manufacture since the project already began before he took office due to Roosevelt's passing. As the vice president under Roosevelt Truman never even knew of the project so when he took office every decision making was kind of propagated by his generals and admirals, and you guessed right, most of them where from the previous (Roosevelt's) administration.

Right decision? Killing those not involved and getting deformities from the radiation? Yes Japan was in the wrong at Pearl Harbor but it doesn't make it better destroying tons of Japanese people just to win a war. That's why I hate war. Killing people is wrong.

It started after World War 2.

It started in 1947. WW2 ended in 1945.

While I don't think bombing two cities was justified, it was necessary, to speak of the alternative: putting boots on Japan and attacking Japanese forces that way. Problem with that is, the Japanese fought like monsters, completely disregarding their own life if it meant extending the life of Emporer Hirohito, who convinced his people he was a god. So what would this entail if we instead put soldiers in Japan? A hard-fought battle which we would probably lose and several thousands of soldiers dead and tortured.

In other words, it was them or us. It was unfortunate that the bombs targeted citizens and not their military arms.

1. The argument is if the U.S didn't use the atomic bombs then Japan wouldn't have surrendered and more lives would have been lost in the end. The reason for using two bombs instead of one was to scare Japan and make them question the amount the U.S had.

2. The Cold war didn't even take place during then.
