First off, let me start by saying that I like both Naruto and Sasuke. I like Naruto because he is loyal, never gives up, always puts others' safety first, will do anything to protect his friends, and has an interesting story to his past. I like Sasuke because he understands loyalty to family and because of the bond he formed with Naruto (even though it's hidden under a pile of hatred at the moment).
That said, I admit that Naruto is my favorite between the two. Why is this? Because Naruto had a reason to hate everyone in the entire village as well but he chose a different path rather than hatred. It's hard to compare Naruto's and Sasuke's past and say who suffered more at the hands of Konoha, who has more of a right to seek vengeance. Naruto's parents were killed by the Nine-tails and he grew up alone, never being able to experience a true bond until he was older, and being shunned by the entire village. Sasuke grew up with a family the he loved. Then he witnessed the gruesome aftermath and had to deal with a massive loss, suddenly being alone in the world. On top of that, he finds out later that his brother was a martyr for the village elders. Neither of them chose to have these things happen to them. It's the way in which they responded that creates debate.
Naruto could have easily gone in the direction that Sasuke did. He didn't though. Instead, he chose to make people acknowledge him by working hard. This is where I think most people come to like him more than Sasuke. Sasuke, being an Uchiha, has an automatic knack for learning techniques and being able to perform well in the academy. Naruto on the other hand has always had to work much harder. He's not a "genius" so he struggles to learn even the basic technique of transforming. BUT he succeeds in the end. Why? Because he never gave up on himself. This determination, in turn, started to force others to acknowledge him and see that he is truly an asset to the village, not some demon fox child as they previously thought. When it comes to Sasuke, he already has the acknowledgement of the village. Not only is he the sole survivor of a massacre, but he is an Uchiha, born and bred to do great things as all previous Uchiha. Does he care? Nope. He does try to be part of the Konoha 11 at one time (though even then he was standoffish). Still, he allows his hatred to fester and smolder. He wants power only to destroy first his brother then, when he finds out the truth, the village of Konoha. Sasuke comes to see friendship as a sign of weakness while Naruto finds strength in those bonds.
I know that Sasuke has a lot of hurt and pain that is channeled into his anger towards the village. As was stated in the manga/anime, he is an avenger who carries the will of the Uchiha. That doesn't give him the right to involve innocent people in his plans for destroying it. I want to see Naruto succeed in bringing him out of the darkness and I believe he WILL do it.
