He appears as a boy with straight blue hair, wearing white headphones which give the vague appearance of devilish horns on his head. Due to this, he is actually quite sinister looking. Kazuya wears a black long sleeve shirt with a black MP3 player on the collar (that connects to his headphones), reddish pants with a belt strap on the right side and black shoes. He is about 6 feet tall.

Kazuya is a fairly calm young man. He has a broad way of thinking, able to see through things people normally don't. He is also quick to make decisions. He usually tends to act quite serious around people, and isn't all that talkative. However, when surrounded by friends or family, he usually becomes more outspoken. Kazuya comes across as sarcastic and cynical. Many people usually see him as a dark and cold individual due to his sinister appearance. He also has a strong sense of justice, and is willing to bend the rules to punish evildoers.

Kazuya was born in Konohagakure. His family was very poor, and his father had to resort to petty crimes to keep his family alive. His mother was very ill, and barely left the house. She had been suffering from an unknown illness for a long time, and eventually passed away at the early age of 26. Kazuya was 2-years-old at that time. His father didn't want to raise Kazuya on his own, so he left his son with a wealthy family, hoping that he could live a better life there. His father's current whereabouts are unknown.
Most of his adoptive brothers and sisters looked down upon him, and tried to make his childhood as miserable as possible. His adoptive father considered his own children superior to Kazuya as well. The only one that treated Kazuya normally was one of his adoptive brothers, Naoya, who was already a chuunin at that time. Naoya claimed that Kazuya was less ''boring'' compared to his actual siblings. Eventually, Kazuya enrolled in the Ninja academy together with his other 3 siblings. He desperately wanted to prove his worth to both his adoptive father and siblings, which succeeded, because he was the only one of the four to graduate from the academy at the age of 10.
At age 17, now being a Jounin, Kazuya was far above any of his siblings in terms of skill with the exception of Naoya. His family finally accepted him as one of their own blood.
