I just thought of this Itachi has stated he has told so many lies which is right. Second he told sasuke you must kill your best friend to unlock ms wrong he lied.
Sasuke unlocked full sharingan during his first fight with naruto a battle experience awakening. Next sasuke unlocked his ms by watching his brother die now I think this is key not the killing your best friend. It is key because Itachi was really never the one to kill shisui thus he awakened it by the loss of somebody just like sasuke losing his brother not killing. It was all a hoax killing your best friend was such a lie it was the experience of battle and the love and loss of a true friend not by murdering. Which makes sense about how kakashi unlocked his/obito's ms. Which leads to the rinnegan which surprise surprise was unlocked during battle with hashirama also he needed DNA but it was at a high level of battle that he was fully able to push his eye's further.
