The group of Konoha ninja flee Kumogakure and after a long uneventful journey, they finally reach the gates of Konoha. By this time, two days had already passed since their battle, or rather Minato's battle, with the Raikage. It was around noon when they crossed the threshold into their hometown.
“We made it back in one piece.” says Kushina as she stretched her arms and legs, loosening her muscles after hours of leaping from tree to tree. “I need a hot bath. See you at home Minato.” With that, she heads off into the village.
“I'll go give my report to the Hokage.” says Minato as he runs off to the Hokage's office.
“It's good to be home.” says Hideki. “Wonder when this war will end.”
“I know. My kid just passed the Chunnin exams and will probably be going into battle soon.” says another member of their squad who had distinctly red irises. “Remember those days when your kid becoming a Chunnin was a good thing? Now my young Kurenai will have to face the bloodshed and pain of war.”
“I'm sure she'll be fine.” says Hideki as both shinobi walk off into the village while continuing their conversation.
Elsewhere, at the Hokage's office Minato delivers his full report to the village's leader.
“I see.” Smoke eases through the aged Kage's lips as he takes a whiff of his pipe. “Anyway, you'll be going to support our forces in Iwagakure. We're so outnumbered over there. The Legendary Sannin have been withheld from going as back up due to being tasked with eradicating threats in Kirigakure and if I were the wait for them to return so that I can deploy them to Iwa, it would already be too late. So we need you.”
“I'm honoured Hokage-sama. When do we leave?” asks Minato with a blank expression on his face.
“Tonight. You'll be going with squad 11. Kakashi, Obito and Rin will be tagging along with you.” replies the Hokage as more smoke emerges from his lips.
“And Kushina?”
“No one is more suited to protect our jinchuuriki than you. Also, the power of the Nine Tails should be an asset on the battlefield. She'll be going as well.” replies the Hokage.
“So, she'll be tapping into its power?” Minato asks, a marked expression of worry of his face. “Hokage-sama, I don't...”
“We're at war Minato.” Hiruzen's voice is cold and authoritative as he cuts Minato off. Clearly there will be no changing his mind on the issue. “We must utilize every resource.”
A silence follows. The Yellow Flash head is low and sadness is etched on his face. “I understand Hokage-sama.”
The day quickly flies by and night falls upon Konoha. The radiance of the moon illuminates the Namikaze household as both dwellers; Minato and Kushina prepare to leave for battle. Minato seals a large number of his special kunai into a variety of scrolls and keeps the scrolls in his backpack. Kushina also stocks up on scrolls which contain powerful sealing formulas as well as small sized shuriken, kunai and explosive papers. She seals large weapons such as Fuuma Shurikens, large shurikens into scrolls so that they can be easily carried in her backpack.
“Let's go, Kushina.” says Minato, almost in a whisper in order not to disturb their neighbours.
“Yeah.”
In a few minutes, they arrive at the gates of Konoha to meet a team of 23 shinobi already gathered.
“We've been waiting Minato-sensei. A team leader being late sets a bad example for the rest.” says a young white haired boy.
Minato smiles at his young student. “Let's go.” The team immediately disappear into the trees.
The scene is the entrance of the Earth country where a good number of shinobi stand guard in order to ward off invaders. One of them, looking into a set of binoculars, sees a group of shinobi approaching.
“Konohagakure invaders! Call for help!” says the Iwa shinobi. “We'll hold them off.”
A flare is shot into the sky by the border patrol squad and Minato notices. “Seems we've been discovered.” the Yellow Flash comments as he arms himself with several kunai. The border patrol charge and him and his team. Minato turns towards one of his comrades, signalling him with a look.
“Ok!” the Konoha ninja replies as he claps his hands. At the same time, Minato launches a volley of his special kunai towards the enemy. A gust of wind forms and pushes the kunai towards the opposing Iwa forces, increasing the speed of the launched projectiles. The weapons stab through some of their opponents. And the ones that didn't, served as a beacon to transport Minato to their enemies in a yellow flash of light. In a matter of seconds, the Konoha team leader effortlessly slaughters the Iwa shinobi.
“Minato!” a Konoha shinobi shouted, the fang markings on his cheek show that he is an Inuzuka. “They called for back up! About 60 ninjas are headed our way right now.”
The team leader gives no reply and just continues to press on and his team follows. Minato narrows his eyes into a frightful glare upon seeing the incoming forces. They all launch a variety of attacks spanning all five elements, at the Yellow Flash and his squad. The Konoha team leader simply takes out a kunai and holds it with both palms while weaving a number of hand seals. Holding the custom made weapon between both palms, he then stretches the kunai towards the attacks with the teleportation tag on the handle facing the incoming multitude of attacks. The attacks suddenly disappear into thin air.
“Our attacks, what did he....” The Iwa ninja who spoke is cut off as a golden chain emerges from beneath the ground and wraps him up in an instant. The same happens to most of his comrades much to their shock.
“Thanks Kushina.” Minato thinks to himself as he flashes a grin and launches more of his kunai towards the now chained up Iwagakure opposition. The weapons land amongst them and they are all killed in a matter of moments.
“Sensei, you should leave some for the rest of us.” says Obito, a wide grin plastered on his face.
Minato smiles back at his young pupil without responding to him and then the smile disappears as he becomes serious. “I left at least two or three of them alive. Rin, heal them until they can talk.” Minato orders a young girl with purple markings on her cheeks and brown hair, also one of his pupils. “Uchiha Kikyo, use genjutsu to glean as much information as you can from them.” he orders a female Uchiha member amongst them.
“Yes sir!” Both female teammates respond.
“Kakashi,” starts Minato with a smile as he addresses his genius pupil, “I know you're itching to do something so why don't you and Inuzuka Hi find us a safe place to camp.”
“Alright Sensei” Kakashi responds in a bored tone as he and the Inuzuka set off.
“What about me?” asks Obito, looking like he was about to break into tears should his Sensei disappoint him. He always had a rivalry with his teammate Kakashi and it would be his loss if he were to do nothing while Kakashi was doing something very important.
“Follow Kakashi and spread my kunai around the campsite once its setup.” Minato responds and winks at him. A large grin appears on Obito's face and he runs after Kakashi. Minato smiles as he watches the young Uchiha.
