Yes, I'm back. Sorry for the immense delay, will try to release chaps quicker. Anyways, enjoy!
Minato cracked a sly smile, his curved lips mocking the aged Tsuchikage. His eyes shifted to the ash and cinders that blanketed the battlefield, the only remnants of the inferno Bunta and Kato had evoked against the Iwa foes and the blonde's smile grew wider, taking joy in the death he had caused. It was uncharacteristic of the Yellow Flash to be proud of murder but his desire of peace and harmony between shinobi was utterly consumed by his blazing anger, an anger he saw reflected back at him when his eyes locked with Onoki's. Realising the prevalence of emotion over reason that was taking place within him, he shook his head as if to dispel his hateful state of mind. 'A weak mind is one unable to overcome emotion and made for a weak shinobi' the wise words of Jiraiya echoed in his head.
“Minato,” Kushina began, pulling the Yellow Flash from his thoughts, “I thought you dealt with him before coming here!” the red-haired shinobi complained loudly, her voice hoarse and frightening.
“Excuse me Kushina for not defeating one of the shinobi world's greatest legends in a matter of minutes.” the blonde retorted gently without turning his eyes away from the old man in question. “I'll deal with him now. For sending his pawns against all of our comrades and most importantly against you, I will most assuredly kill him.” Minato declared.
Silence fell upon all that were present after Minato's declaration. “It won't be so easy.” she said, her voice softened by anxiety. From what she had gathered, Minato had apparently faced Onoki earlier that night and had abandoned the battle in favor of coming to the invading Konoha ninja's aid. Did Minato retreat because helping his comrades was the more pressing matter or perhaps Onoki was...stronger? She gulped and fought off thoughts of Minato losing the battle and his life that had already begun to swirl in her mind.
“Kushina,” the Yellow Flash began, his voice gentle as the soft wind that swept through the battlefield, “don't worry.” The quiet breeze caused a mild disturbance in the blonde shinobi's hair as he shifted his gaze to the red haired kunoichi who was frozen still and gave her a smile.
“You bastard!” cursed Kitsuchi, the Iwagakure ninja's eyes blazed with fury, giving the blonde a murderous glare as his teeth grinded against each other. His breaths were heavy as he did his best to ignore the gravity of the injuries he recieved from Kushina's Kyubi-powered punch and it was clear that even uttering his hateful words put too much stress on him.
“Kitsuchi, you don't look too good.” said Onoki as his eyes shifted to the burly individual floating next to him who was drawing heavy, labored breaths with each passing moment. “Find a medic to deal with your injuries then come join me. After, you are healed, tell everyone to retreat.”
Kitsuchi gasped at the Tsuchikage's last sentence. Retreat? Never before had their great leader given such an order. “Tsuchikage-sama...why...”
“I didn't think we'd lose so many shinobi in an effort to eliminate enemies not even up to 30 in number. Besides, have you forgotten that I had previously issued a flee on sight order when any battle involves the Yellow Flash? You failed me by allowing our forces to engage him. I left you in charge and you proved yourself a disappointment.” the old man's words stung Kitsuchi like a deadly poison though not as much as his wounds. Onoki observed this and fell silent, allowing the words to sink into the burly shinobi who was gritting his teeth in shame.
“I'm sorry.” Kitsuchi said under his breath, his head hanging very low before he flew downwards towards the Iwa ninja who were still left alive where a female medic was waiting to receive him.
Onoki turned his attention back to the Yellow Flash and his cohorts. Scanning the trio of shinobi who stood atop a giant toad, the Tsuchikage's face became overcome with cold disdain. “Let's get started.” The elder weaved a hand sign and spewed mud which hardened and shaped itself into three perfects clones of himself. The clones immediately spread out; one heading below while two charged at Minato head on. The real Tsuchikage quickly ascended high above the toad and forged a cone shaped Dust Release attack.
The clone which flew closer to ground immediately burrowed into the earth and thus disappeared from sight in an instant. Minato cast a quick glance at this before turning his attention back to the duo of clones headed towards him. “Clones....a distraction.” he mulled as he armed himself with a number of his custom kunai which gleaned in the moonlight. “Bunta disappear!” the toad quickly obeyed his summoner's abrupt command and vanished in a rather large cloud of smoke, allowing Minato, Kushina and Kato to fall to the ground. Minato flung a number of kunai at the two incoming clones of Onoki and one of them quickly manifested a Earth Golem to shield the barrage of weapons.
In that instant the Tsuchikage, who had ascended so high into the sky that he could no longer be seen by those nearer to the ground, fired out a Dust Release at the trio of Konoha shinobi, the bright beam of light which boasted the combined destructive power of the earth, fire and wind natures managed to reach the trio in spite of the great vertical distance between the attacking Tsuchikage and the Konoha ninja.
Minato, somehow anticipating this, quickly grabbed on to Kato and Kushina before vanishing in a bright yellow flash of light just short of a second before Onoki's Dust Release beam could obliterate them. The three ninja reappeared in a flash at another point in the battlefield, having teleported to a kunai Minato had placed there earlier.
The Tsuchikage, from the great height he ascended to, found it difficult to properly see if his Dust Release had connected with his opponents as everything looked almost microscopic from up there so he quickly flew closer to the ground. He was less than pleased to see his three opponents still alive, having avoided his assault no doubt as a result of Minato's legendary Space Time Ninjutsu. “Damn brats!” the elder cursed audibly, capturing the attention of the three Konoha ninja. “You should all be dead!”
“Your plan was almost perfect; distract us the clones attacking from the front, neutralise my toad with a clone attacking from underground then finish us all off with a Dust Release from such a distance that we wouldn't even know it would be coming. If I had lingered for one more second, no, perhaps even a half second, I and my comrades would have been vaporized by the Dust Release.” Minato explained with a smirk on his face which only filled Onoki with more rage. Minato was quite clear on the fact that their goal was to stall the Iwa battalion to allow his own comrades escape and cover their tracks, a menial task for a shinobi of his special set of abilities; his Space Time ninjutsu allowing him to prolong the battle by avoiding every move. However, the Tsuchikage's last assault was certainly more dangerous that he bargained for when he opted to take on the elder. The attack combination had posed such a great challenge to his intellect and his speed that he was now certain the old man was coming to understand how to effectively battle his technique and would probably get the better of him with a few more attempts. Having Kushina and Kato to watch out for didn't really help matters much. The company of one's comrades, while helpful, also posed something of a hindrance and a burden though he would never say this out loud. It was decided; playing defensive to stall for time was no longer an option as only death at the Tsuchikage's hand awaited him at the end of that road. Now he would have to pour all his efforts into killing the Kage as quickly as possible.
Kitsuchi growled in anger as he watched Minato and his cohorts evade Onoki's Dust Release. He cast a quick glance at the medic who was tending to his many injuries. “Aren't you done yet?!” he thundered in a hoarse voice that would scare the wits out of even the most seasoned shinobi.
“Not yet Kitsuchi-san.” the female replied with a voice like velvet, completely unfazed by her patient's fury and impatience. She had tended to most of his injuries and was now simply adding the finishing touches that would prevent the wounds from becoming an issue during the fight. The bright green glow of chakra around her two hands which were placed on his firm chest disappeared, signalling that she was done with the healing. She then offered Kitsuchi a number of soldier pills to aid in regaining his strength and lost blood and also to soothe the pain that still lingered from his wounds.
“Retreat all of you!” Kitsuchi announced loud enough for all his comrades to hear as he forced down the bitter pills the medic had proffered. “Those are Tsuchikage-sama's orders! All of you go now!!” His order was quickly obeyed without question as all the Iwa ninja quickly leaped into the distance, leaving him and Onoki alone with the trio of Konoha ninja.
Minato took notice of the fact that Kitsuchi had arrived to back up the Tsuchikage, a development that did nothing to make things easier for the Yellow flash. Now he had two powerful opponents to deal with, he kept his eyes focused on the Tsuchikage and the burly shinobi while considering a plethora of possible strategies. “Kushina,” he began after deciding on his next move, “you and Kato deal with Kitsuchi. I'll take on Onoki alone. Let your strategies revolve around defeating him with a Sharingan genjutsu.” he intoned to his two companions and they replied with a nod, letting him know his instructions were understood. He placed his hand on Kushina's and met her eyes with his. “Be careful.” he added with a worried look on his face.
“You sure you can do this?” asked Kato, his voice revealing his own anxiety. Minato was definitely a force to be reckoned with and rarely was his life ever in danger during battle even against large numbers but Onoki was also an icon in the shinobi world, the legendary Tsuchikage who led Iwa to victory in countless battles spanning multiple Shinobi World Wars by forging the way ahead with the might of his Dust Release. Could Minato really kill this man?
“Don't worry,” replied Minato with a heartwarming smile,“I have a plan.”
