This thread will attempt to explain the relationship between the two jutsu, and why they are separate.

I believe initially, Kishimoto might not have been sure about what to do with Enton: Kagu-Tsuchi. Is it the power to change the chakra form of the flames?

If so, doesn't that create the issue of such a power being virtually useless without the other eye?

It's possible Kishimoto is now a little more decided on what Enton: Kagu-Tsuchi is intended to be, and we can use Obito as groundwork.

Obito's Mangekyo has a power that's referred to as the same thing by two different people: Kamui. It was confusing, because Kamui was first announced as this ocular space-time jutsu that sends things away to a dimension. It can even cause lethal damage depending on where and when the barrier is cut off.

Yet, here Obito comes along with a power that has mainly to do with his body. Whenever something touches him, the part that would have been making contact gets sent into his personal dimension, making it seem as he was a ghost.

We also know he can send things away to his dimension by touching them.

Two powers that are connected, but work very differently.

I believe this is the direction Kishimoto has decided to take with Amaterasu and Enton: Kagu-Tsuchi. First of all, Amaterasu is the Shinto goddess of the sun, and the highest god, since she was given the right to rule the high plain of heaven by her father, Izanagi.

Kagu-Tsuchi on the other hand is recognized as the god of fire, but his name actually refers to Earth, since fire is also associated with wood. His name also has to do with mt. Kagu, where the famous story of Amaterasu retreating into the cave took place. Even though Izanagi killed Kagu-Tsuchi for burning Izanami to death, he later rekindled on mt. Atago.

[...]

Getting back to the point, what is Amaterasu? Amaterasu is the ocular power to ignite the black fire where a person looks. In other words, like "Kakashi's" Kamui.

However, Amaterasu is notoriously lacking in offense. Even though it is persistent, the flames don't carry much physical impact like most jutsu would, and as a result need to do damage by burning.

Now, what is Enton: Kagu-Tsuchi? I believe Enton: Kagu-Tsuchi is intended to be the power to produce the flames where someone or their chakra touches. In other words, Enton: Kagu-Tsuchi is more closer to "Obito's" Kamui: a body-related power.

I believe it's not a case where the Susanoo itself "produces" the flames, but rather, Sasuke's own doing, since Susanoo is his chakra.

While Amaterasu is also "missing" the chakra manipulation aspect, Enton: Kagu-Tsuchi becomes a little more difficult to survive due to the fact that it can cut and burn. The powers are more or less like Obito's Kamui: one has accuracy in exchange for less power [Amaterasu; Obito]. The other has power in exchange for accuracy [Enton: Kagu-Tsuchi; Kakashi].

Viz media subscription for $20 year [North Americans only]. I'm not in the business of uploading whole chapters for people to see either, only reference material.

I was interested in seeing Sasuke was actually able to hold enton in his own bare hands. Brings me to ask the question can he actually mold his own body with enton itself as a defense. If it's true your thread could be the ground work. Kudos to you.

He should be able to, a least in theory, but it's unpredictable as far as if he'll actually employ that tactic.
