Uni help (PLEASE)

Sooooo I need a bit of advice. I'm in my final year of high school right now and I will be applying for Universities and courses in a couple of weeks. I've been thinking of studying Law, conjoint with commerce, but I'm not entirely sure if I should. Idk, I am quite confused, I don't really know what to do with my life.

I've gotten good grades all through high school and people have kind of expected me to study either law or engineering. I wouldn't mind studying law tbh, but then I'm also interested in studying subjects like geography or graphic design (yeah the "useless" subjects which aren't always job rich:'() Idk, I honestly don't know.

Any uni students out there who could give me some useful, practical advice? (Please don't say "Just do what you want to do").
Aaaaaaand any law students out there who could tell me what life is like for a law student and how you're finding the course?

Take it from me, a ex-law student don't do law. Unless you're very intellectual and can spend every living moment doing reading and preparation for assignments. Thats how the life is. There is plenty of reading like around 70-80 pages per unit and its very time consuming.Although you do mention you are looking into business commerce with law. Lol, thats double as tougher. Legit, you will die but you do say you were very good at school. Remember this child:Tertiary education is nothing like school. I see all these first years coming straight from school and thinking uni will be a breeze. News flash it aint. You gotta put alot of effort and time to be a high achieving student. And dont just go passes. Passes do get degrees but really? Passes? ( i went tafe before uni which lessened the blow) Enough of me ranting, i used to do Law and Social Science. I dropped Law and stuck with Social Science. Atm, im in my last year of bachelor of social science, majoring in criminology. I suggest you do it. Very simple degree. Easy and has a high scope of government jobs including detective, police, government jobs, social worker, etc.

Choose things with your own mind. Don't let others choose by you. My parents wanted me to go study data processing so I could help my father in his company, well I liked it in all... but what I really want to be is an ethnobotanist. So Imma do it !!

Have you taken an MBTI-based career test? If not, i highly recommend it, since certain personality types tend to be more suited to certain professions.

If you're a fan of reading and writing a shit load of papers then you should pick law. If not, I'd suggest you book an appointment with your nearest hospital and get a tour there. I was like you, I didn't know what to do with my good grades, until my aunt suggested I take a look around my local hospital. So I did, and I had a change of heart. Being doctor is the most rewarding job out there, working with people of all ages in a unique atmosphere and putting smiles on their faces really hit my feels. Anyway, now I'm planning to go medicine school, so yeah, my advice is you talk to a Lawyer and ask about what their daily routine consists of is and see if it's what you want. If not, keep your mind open to other fields of study that might entice you.

Whatever you do, make sure you don't become an elitist asshat. Our Uni has enough of those, as if Law & Economics are the only two things in the world.

Just make sure you're actually happy and satisfied and not just pursuing somebody else's vision of happiness and 'success'. What do you want more? a profession you love and a happier (if quainter) lifestyle or is happiness success and money-based for you?

This isn't cliche at all, because it is dependent on you. Make sure you're doing something you're interested in and actually enjoy. I've met so many people in University who were in the same program as me but they ended up changing programs because they realized after all this time that it wasn't what they wanted to do. Which is a sad realization, but it happens. I'm a science student, so I wouldn't know much about Law, but judging from Uchiha Usman's post, it seems like just as much work as the science programs.

Commerce would be a good choice because you really start getting your major in second/third year. In some universities, they give you a year or two to decide which business stream you want to major in (accounting/finance/marketing/HR/etc). I took law in highschool, it was okay but that's just me. I remember my law teacher in highschool bringing in guest speakers and they usually always say that getting into law school is difficult so keep that in mind. I don't know about the worklife of a law student since most of my friends are in business/life-science/engineering. Just pick a major that you enjoy.

Find a Career Counseller, take their aptitude test and they will most probably give you a whole assortment of services/sectors you can look forward to, you can then take your pick. Also, you would hardly get a good advice on an anime forum.

Do whatever the f*ck you want to do! Leave others opinions out of it. It doesn't get simpler than that. The difficulties of making a decision comes from other people with their dumb expectations of you. You don't have to make a single decision today and stick with it for life you know, but make an authentic one and take it from there. Nobody is holding a gun to your head saying once you choose this path there is no turning back.

Just get into a good univ, try out the subjects that interest you and go from there. You can't ever know if it's right unless you try it, but don't be afraid if it's not. That's why the first two years are usually general studies.

Personally I think you can and should plan your own life aslong as you don't feel pressured to it.

I never said you shouldn't plan. But planning your whole life is almost impossible. Life is too unexpected, you can't predict everything and change in people and things are inevitable.

That's why you shouldn't be too specific about the journey, just pick a destination and let life unfold but have a direction you want to go.

I've never even heard of ethnobotany before! Done a bit of googling and it sounds like a pretty interesting subject.

We have careers counselors at our school but I shit you not, they are the most useless counselors on the face of the earth. True, but I'm just looking for new ideas, i'm sort of tired of asking the people around me so I thought it would be useful to hear something new from you guys, and so far I was right! There have definitely been some interesting ideas discussed here so I personally dont regret it
