Understanding Naruto and Sasuke: We will both die

So I was currently going over some old Naruto chapters and I came across this part.

I remember being very curious when I first saw this. I am still unsure of what Naruto could have possibly seen by exchanging fists with sasuke and how sasuke really felt when Naruto was talking to him. Now That we know a lot more about what happens after that moment and how they both have changed since then I was wondering:


Do you think that they will still fight each other?
What is the current state of their relationship?
Do you think that Sasuke still has some of his hatred left or did he manage to get rid of it thanks to itachi?
If they do fight, do you think this still stands?

This is a question I asked myself as well. I believe that back then, before he met Itachi again, Naruto believed that they both must die in order to protect Konoha. Now that Sasuke apparently doesn't want to destroy Konoha I'm convinced that a fight between them wouldn't involve either of them Dying as that would throw off the balance. If they do fight, it'll be over hokage, and in my thread I said that I believe it would be a tie.

Interesting thought. Personally I would not be a fan of a fight between them for the hokage spot.

I think if Naruto and Sasuke were to fight, a fight for the hokage spot wouldn't bring a satisfying conclusion to their story and to the manga, except if kishi pulls it off really, really well of course. Imo, their fight needs to have higher stakes and have more symbolism than that if it is going to happen.
