Re: UEFA Euro 2012 Official Thread - Discussion, Analysis, Predictions & All News!

Update:

Spain VS Italy 0-0 First half:

So, its the end of first half and so far were seeing some good football, Spain with their great offence and Italy with their defence all thought Italy are attacking well too. They've had more close calls on us than we do on them. Casillas is keeping us in and De Rossi is playing some amazing defensive football for Italy thanks to him Italy is still in here.

Spain will need to find away to get by De Rossi and than Buffon, or if the game keeps going like this with the chances Italy has gotten and are poor defence they will put the ball in the net. Italy main threat is coming from Cassano offensively, Pique and Ramos need to keep their eye on him.

I don't understand why we had Fabregas as the MS. I'd prefer Torres/Negredo/Llorente.

At this moment I'm praying for Balotelli to mess up, or get a red card lol

Some stats:

Ball Possession - Spain 63% - Italy 37%

Shots (On Goal) - Spain 8 (3) - Italy 7 (4)

Corner kicks - Spain 4 - Italy 2

Fouls - Spain 7 - Italy 10

Yellow Cards - Spain 0 - Italy 1

Offside - Spain 2 - Italy 2

Italy have surprised me, they look like they can really get something from this game although it has been far from exciting to watch. Spain have to win though, I have money on this xd

What the hell was going throughout Balotelli mind? He had an open shot and a teammate wide open, but didn't take a single one instead let Ramos come from behind and take the ball.

Italy are actually playing much better than I thought and I'll add that the formation choices of Spain helped them considerably.

They can attack with 4-5 players since they know there's few chance of a Spain counter since they have no forward. The lack of Villa or a proper forward is cruelly costing Spain right now. Especially in the 1st half with 4 great chances of Italy due their inhibited offence. They are playing defensively but they are attacking well due to this lack of forward in Spain.

OMG here comes Torres. Since Cesc just scored I wonder if it was the smart choice to move him.

And I've seen Torres mess up on about 3? Maybe 4 good chances to score now.

Re: UEFA Euro 2012 Official Thread - Discussion, Analysis, Predictions & All News!

I have lots to say, so hopefully I won't forget certain points.

1. It was a great match. Much better than what I expected. It was a very uninhibited approach by Italy - somewhat reminiscent of a Arsenal/Barca or United /Barca. Minus Messi. :p

2. The formation of Spain was too risky. Sure, they got the best midfield of the world but over-relying on it is too costly cause a midfield don't guarantee you a match.

3. The lack of forward in Spain had numerous effects: Italy attacked with less fear, Spain were forced to stop their own counter attacks with new start of passes and Spain were sloppy in terms of finishing.

4. Torres missed 3 big chances but his entry helped Spain. Since he was in striker position, Italy were forced to defend deeper and thus, Spain dominated the last 10-15 minutes of the game with lots of possession. In short, Torres helped tactic-wise but he should have finished the chances. Llorente will most likely play the next matches.

5. Di Natale did a good entry with his opener. But couldn't finished the next chance on a cross of Giovinco. De Rossi did a great match defensively. Pirlo was really great in midfield; largely responsible to prevent his team from sinking in midfield (baring the last 10 minutes). Balotelli didn't nailed it when mattered. Buffon deserve credit.

6. Xavi regulated the midfield brilliantly. Among the 3 midfielders - Iniesta, Silva, Fabregas - put a little more offensively, Iniesta did a better match. Fabregas scored the winner. Silva fought well. Casillas had a great match with a beyond sub-par defense.

7. This draw is a deserved result for both teams but I found Italy to have done a better match; except in the last 10 minutes.

8. This places Italy higher than what I expected, so good luck to them. They were in a rough patch before this match - match fixing/betting scandals, Earthquake in northern Italy and the mafia bomb in a school some weeks earlier. So, it's pleasant to have seen such a pleasant face of their football; though their defense need to be stronger since it's supposedly their DNA.

9. This draw won't affect Spain much; though the next match will be crucial (especially if Ireland wins today). One thing though - the absence of Villa is costing them more than I thought. This could be problematic but they can't play without a forward like today. It's too inconsistent. They'll need to put a striker and quickly find the best of the 3 strikers they bought - Torres, Llorente and Negredo.

Balotelli is a ****ing idiot. Why he thought he had all the time in the world is beyond me U_U. Anyway this euro's so far has been unpredictable and ive got people losing money. Yesterday a friend lost a bet when he put his money on Holland beating Denmark, nor ive another who lost their money by tipping Spain to beat Italy xd.
