He has one tomoe sharingan back then. He awakened while trying to fight with itachi. You guys always forget everything and used to blame on plot.

Hes awakened the sharingan when he was fighting Haku, he read the momument right before itachi and kisame started fighting asuma and that woman (her name eludes me).

The sharingan was woken unconscious-ably and would explain why it took him so long to use it against haku whatever his name was, he would of lost the sharingan after falling unconcious, thus making it a plothole

How come the sharingan lost? Sasuke must have upgraded his sharingan from one tomoe to two tomoe like he did while fighting naruto at the the valley of end. Sasuke was predicting haku's movements from the very beginning.

Well, in the fact that with every sharingan upgrade the user can deceipher a little more of the writings, I've kinda always leaned towards the possibility of "beginner" or "entry" level writings that point the person in the right direction of translating the rest of it. Though they've never said it out right. Dunno, just a thought..
