Well basically i see it like this.

Sage is an Uzumaki.
He fights the Juubi.
Becomes its host.

Now the sage is Uzumaki + Juubi.
He is the complete package, with top eye and top body powers.

On his deathbed he splits his powers into two sons.
Uchiha and Senju.
Both have parts from the Juubi and the Sage.
Which makes them distant relatives to Uzumaki.
