It makes no sense as to how the Uchiha can do either without dying, both are considered sub-techniques born out of the Banbutsu Sozo or Creation of All Things, which requires both yin (to create) and yang (to give life to).
The Uchiha clan descend from the elder son who represented the yin side of chakra that the Sage possessed but not the yang (Senju clan and their relatives). It's pretty important to have the yang chakra, it's the element needed to fuel the created realities or illusions that are derived from the yin chakra. If you don't have the appropriate amount of chakra you either cannot complete the jutsu or you die because you run out of the energy required.
Just to lose sight in the eye makes no sense, considering that the Sharingan creates but doesn't fuel. Uchiha are not known for having the massive chakra reserves needed for yin/yang release techniques, which are under the province of SO6P and people similar (if there are any) who have both the yin and yang. We have seen many examples of people using up chakra and dying, since chakra of some sort is required to make any jutsu work, not just loss of eyesight.
Both examples of Izanagi, have been used by people that have acquired both Uchiha and Senju dna. We have never seen a confirmed full Uchiha use either technique without Senju dna, which makes sense considering that it is based off of a yin/yang release technique.
Killing myself over this new idea that Senju dna is not required. Well who knows maybe Itachi will be the exception. Maybe some theories you guys might have.
