Many of us believe that the uchiha clan's symbol is a fan . Since uchiha means "a fan capable of controlling fire " We believed in it and there is nothing wrong in it. But there is more meaning left in uchiha crest.
The elder son represent half moon or crescent moon

The red part is crescent moon. Hence a red crescent moon is in uchiha clan's symbol. So what the remaining white part has to do in clan's crest ???
