okay, im pretty confused here... why would itachi side with the leaf instead of his clan?

im fairly certain if itachi, and shisui displayed more traits like madara and actually stood up for their clan that they could have won in a civil war against the leaf. opinions?:shrug:

The Leaf said it, they would destroy the clan if they had a uprising, maybe they had some secret weapon/sealing technique, whichever it is, they seemed very confident they could destroy the Uchiha Clan.

Itachi believed in the Leaf and Danzou enough to the point where he sided with the leaf.

The leaf had Hokage, Danzo, anbu and many other leaf ninjas. Itachi was the only really strong Uchiha and thought differently. The rebels are always weaker if you paid attention to the French and American revolution. (a real life example) If the leaf and uchiha fought it was a excellent chance for other nation to take over..

the Uchiha clan stood no chance against the Leaf, but it probably a massive problem for the Leaf since the Uchiha were once there's allied and concerning about the other village that trying to take advantages during the event which is very complicated for the Leaf

I think he knew that they would not be able to win an uprising or even if they did the cost would be so severe that some other village would be able to come in and wipe them out or take control.

I also believe that with Itachi's and Shisui's generation the feelings of hate and betrayal that the Uchiha had was being lost. They were more integrated into the village than previous family members were so they did not have the same prejudices that their parents and grandparents had.

But the two big factors were that he wanted to save Sasuke which he loved more than anything else and he wanted to save the Uchiha name and with an uprising it is very likely both of those would be lost.

Because they are not like Madara Uchiha who pride strongly about ones clan. They felt the Leaf was much more important and rightly so. The Uchiha clan were foolish to try and start a revolution.

The Leaf had the "Element of Surpraise," or Ambush, awaiting the Uchiha compound. Danzou himself said that, along with Hurizen ANBU force and his, ANBU Root, could take them (or something similar). That's why they were confident. The Uchiha's didn't know, or woudn't know what hit 'em. Also, it was Itachi morals that made him side with the Leaf; the whole war thing and his brother.

The real reason is because if there was a civil war other villages would take advantage of konoha weakned state and attack a demolish them and Itachi didn't want that.

this is probably the best response out of them all
