Would this still have been necessary if Obito didn't attack Konoha with Kurama?

the uchiha clan massacre occured due to itachi knowing the plans of the uchiha wanting to perform a coup and informing the higher ups about it... thus the nine tails attack was not an issue... yes danzo was suspicious of the uchiha's intentions, and positioned them outside the village, but i would not attribute that suspicion to the nine tails attack...

Well probably the Uchiha wouldnt have been suspected for Kyuubi's attack. So they wouldnt have been much more carefully watched, probably even Itachi wouldnt have been hired for spying them, so the elders would not know about their planned coup d'etat. So they could even succeed in it.

Obito might have saved Konoha from home war, boy that escalated quickly ;P

It all sparked because of the Kyuubi's attack.

The elders knew that only an Uchiha can control Kurama.

there was also a lot of distrust of the uchiha's intentions before that attack as well though... but essentially yea....

If the Kyuubi attack didnt happen,i believe the Uchiha Massacre had no reason to take place.

i think it was danzo who was pushing and pushing, i no tobirama was the most racist (cant find a better word) toward the uchiha, but it could of been tobirama... dont really care to look... but both danzo and sarutobi were suspicous, sarutobi was just being more humane about it...

They started planning a coup quite a few decades after Tobirama died.

yes... but tobirama's hatred for the uchiha was well out there on his sleeve... so there is a factor of that tobirama and followers of tobirama might have a lot lee way on how the uchiha were precieved by others... and that could also have started the reasoning to backing them away from the village..

Tobirama cleared up how he wasn't discriminating against the Uchiha in 626 I think.
