he has Shisui's other eye. Plus, seeing how Hiruzen's been this whole time,
he would've just warned Danzo, and then Danzo would've tried to
assassinate Itachi, or cast Koto on Itachi himself for the other eye.

No cause Kakashi was in a similar situation. I think Hiruzen would've either 1- Punished him cause he stopped the only method of stopping the coup de tat. or 2- Warned him and warn him from touching Itachi, like he did for Kakashi. But knowing Danzo he probably would've attacked Sasuke. In any case Danzo got what he deserved.

Actually I think I know why. Maybe Itachi later used that information against Danzo in order to make sure that he wouldn't harm Sasuke after he'd leave the village.
