The data book said that the Twin Lion Fist was secret tech passed down from the main family. After watching the Hyuga special, Hanabi states Hinata discovered it on her own.

I assumed that after the chunin exams, Hisashi reinstated hinata as successor and taught her the tech. However it seems that was not the case, and Hinata's status hasen't changed in regards to being the leader of the hyuga. If that's true, why would Hisahi teach a main house secret tech to someone that is no longer his successor? Did Hinata actually discover it on her own? I'm a little confused on this part.

this, Neji and Hinata were training together, make sense if he helped her enough to learn it without Hiashi's help.

Same thing could be said for rasengan, shadow clone jutsu and even a charcters existance. Filler is things that never happened in the manga nor have they been made directly from the creator.

Hinata's Twin Lion Fist is canon(See spoiler). The fact that it is a tech passed down through the main family is canon. The fact that Hinata was rejected as the successor to the Hyuuga is canon. OP's point is valid even if it was inspired by a filler.
