I'm not turkish, but staying in Ankara because of business. Shit is going crazy atm, people wondered what was going on with the gun shots and jets.
Turned out it is a coup and that some crazy military group is behind it. The streets are full of police trying to protect the people and telling to go inside.

There is a difference between moderate muslim and islamist. Erdogan is the latter. Not once or twice turkish army saved their country from being ruled by religious zealots, this is nothing new.

I doubt that the military will attack the innocent citizens and hurt them more than that dictator Erdogan, who kills and imprisons people when they don't suit him. Erdogan sh!ts on human rights with every chance he gets, I'm glad if that monster is truly out of the game.

The Middle East - politically - is a binary place.

It's always either a secular military dictatorship or some variety of Islamist authoritarianism. Often these two factions are at each other's throats.

This is basically the entire story of Egypt in the last century, with Morsi being the most recent Islamist who was toppled by Egypt's military. In Turkey, however, the Islamist side - Mr Erdogan's party - played a much more cautious game and had avoided going too far for the military's tastes, though with Erdogan's ever increasing Islamism this was bound to happen sooner or later.

Nevertheless as long as the state in question is an ethno-state with a large degree of sectarian homogeneity, as in Egypt (Sunni Arabs are an absolute majority there), the conflict will likely remain local.

The real problem is those highly diverse states where sizeable percentages of Sunnis, Shias and different races and ethnic groups thrown into the same field, as in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Those failed states were and are regional time bombs.

And the only solution is their natural break-up into Sunni-istan, Shia-istan, Kurdistan, Pashtunistan etc.
Unfortunately, with the single exception of the Kurds, the peoples there are not interested in self-determination - they much prefer crushing other sects and ethnic groups into submission. Hence why those failed states will remain eternally unstable failures.

Turkey's Kurdish problem isn't going to be solved anytime soon but these things won't escalate into the disasters of the states south of Turkey.

So even if there is a civil war over this, it will likely be very brief and not too damage extensive for the simple reason that it will be Turks fighting other Turks - as opposed to Sunni fighting Shia or Arabs fighting Kurds (which are probably fights that will last for eternity).

well, in my defense, I would love to have a peaceful discussion with a nazi/terrorist to find out the truth about any of their actions/beliefs so a solution can be sought out.
