I remember reading a thread several weeks ago that stated that tsunade had no last name.
Well, my take on it...
Point 1:
Tsunade is the granddaughter of Hashirama Senju and Mito Uzumaki.
Therefore, Hashirama had either a son or daughter who was the mother or father of Tsunade. There is a 50% chance that Hashirama had a son and a 50% chance that he had a daughter. (statistically speaking)
Therefore, if Hashirama had a son, the son would have inherited the name Senju. However, if Hashirama had a daughter, that daughter would have given up the name Senju when she got married.
*Side note*
Whether Hashirama had a son or daughter, that child would have had to inherit some of the Uzumaki appearances, because when Dan saw Naruto, he mistook him for Nawaki...
Point 2
Using the Kekkei Genkai:
Hashirama's Kekkei Genkai is one of the most interesting and powerful techniques. Tsunade did not inherit it, though she did inherit his ability to heal without hand seals, although this can hardly be considered a "bloodline limit"... Looking at the groups of ninjas who have bloodline limits or have inherited bloodline limits, the majority of them are not women.
Hyuuga: hinata and hanibi are the only 2 women who have been observed using the byakugan...
Uchiha: no women have been observed using the sharingan.
Lava release: Mei terumi. and the one rock village girl...
Ice Release: Haku and his mother....
Scorch release: Pakura
Crystal release: Guren, this was from a filler so I consider it a psudo-kekkei genkai.
Many of the other bloodline limits only have guys as the users...
Explosion, dust, magnet, swift releases, etc
throughout the series, there have been lots of ninja with bloodline limits, but mysteriously, the women don't seem to inherit it as much as the men do.
Going by this statement, Tsunade's mother was the daughter of Hashirama, as she wouldn't have inherited the Mokuton....
Conclusion:
Judging from the fact that Kishimoto has never found the time or shown the desire to reveal Tsunade's last name, I assume that she is descended from the daughter of Hashirama Senju. If her last name was Senju, why not say so? But, in my opinion, she does have the 50% chance of having the last name Senju, so I can never rule it out.
