Actually Orochimaru was a candidate for Hokage way prior to that but minato was chosen instead because Oro had an evil heart and Jiraiya was chosen to be Hokage before Tsunade but he turned down the job recommending Tsunade to go in his place.
Not to mention she didnt really invent Byakugou as much as it was Hashirama's jutsu that she uses as well.
And I dont get how a weak drunk who never trained and only knows medical ninjutsu is so highly respected... did everyone forget that they had to pull her out of a drunken binge in a casino before she would commit to being hokage? She puts herself in a comma in a futile attempt to heal everyone in the village and now she is has the respect of everyone???
She is 1 step above fodder in my book, neji would have had no time dealing with her... sadly she lives and he is dead... neji you my nigga i hate it had to be you.

She healed your emo sasuke and kakashi from tsuyukomi damage
She protected thousand villagers from death
She mastered the same ability like hashirama regeneration with no hand seals

This is How Kishimoto based the Sannin's Summoning: Toad, Slug, Snake is exactly like rock, paper, scissors. Slug is afraid of Toad. (Toad wins) Toad is afraid of Snake. (Snake wins) Snake is afraid of Slug.
And Katsuyu Is Far more Durable Than Manda and Gamabunta.
Tsunade has done as much as she can for a female character. She's actually gained more accomplishments than all the other females in Naruto, but I hate to say it though it is an obvious pattern, Kishimoto can't write females well when it comes to abilities in the fighting field (with some rare exceptions) so Tsunade's main focus is her medical abilities and he's now doing the exact same thing with Sakura.
