the purpose of jailing is to separate "good" individuals from "bad", not to mindf**k the latters.

the purpose is to make people suffer the consequences for their actions

by excluding them from society, not by torturing them.

what do we gain if we arrest a rapist, keep him in jail for a day, mindf**k him and after he gets out, he rapes again?

nothing.

on the other hand, if he's detained for 20+ years, we make sure he won't rape anyone (beside his cell mates XD) during this period.

The idea is influenced by Operant Conditioning.

The person learns to associate their bad behaviour with an aversive stimulus (mindrape), thus decreasing the likelihood that the behaviour is repeated.

why waste such sophisticated technology on criminals. just execute 'em right off the bat.

That's not punishment, you're giving them the easy escape route from the consequences.

They should suffer in life, not get eternal slumber for their crime.

yeah. but why care?
why waste money on maintaining that trash?

I'd execute criminals (rapists, killers, etc) immediately and use the money elsewhere if it were up to me.

Why care? Because there is no recompense for the victims or their loved ones.
