Tsukuyomi | 月読
Tsukuyomi is one of the most powerful genjutsus in existence.
It's power stems from Itachi's left Mangekyou eye and it's power as a genjutsu is only rivaled only by Kotoamatsukami. The jutsu requires that eye contact between the victim and Itachi be made, but once that has happened the victim is trapped in a illusion fully controlled by the Itachi. There is no escape but for a select few shinobi in the Narutoverse.

Power/Abilities
1) Complete Control:
A.) Time
B.) Space
C.) All Substance(s)

2) This genjutsu is an absolute one shot to anyone who doesn't meet the requirements to break it. Those who fail to avoid being placed under the illusion and are incapable of breaking it, suffer days of psychological torture in mere moments and subsequently fall into a coma so deep that only the most powerful medic ninja in the narutoverse was able to free victims from it.

Weaknesses
Sharingan users: -Anyone in possession of sharingan can resist it to a certain point.
Uchiha w/Sharingan: -Any blood Uchiha in possession of the Uchiha with enough skill is capable of breaking Tsukuyomi.
Drawbacks: -Despite being such a powerful technique, Itachi cannot spam this ability. He can more than handle the pain and strain put on his body just by using his MS abilities but with every use his chakra, stamina and vision fall.
Catching the enemy: -This is only becomes a weakness or a difficulty when the enemy has intel on sharingan genjutsu. But just becomes one has intel doesn't mean Itachi can't catch you in Tsukuyomi. In fact, he's confident that he can.

Itachi didn't know that Kabuto had the ability to shut down his eyesight. However, he definitely knew that Kabuto would have intel on sharingan genjutsu and his in particular. It apparently didn't matter to Itachi as he was even bold enough to specifically name using the justu on Kabuto for interrogation as his goal.

Dat confidence. Dat Itachi Uchiha.

*Other than the listed above there is not a single other weakness to Itachi's Tsukuyomi. Lack of EMS causes strain and pain on the body, it takes huge amounts of chakra and in certain cases Tsukuyomi may not be applicable.

Misconceptions
Perfect Jinchuriki's can break Tsukuyomi: They cannot. They don't have the reaction time to break Tsukuyomi or the capability.
> It takes Sharingan and Kekkai Genkai to break Tsukuyomi
> Tsukuyomi lasts an instant in real time. It took the 8-tails longer than that to just break non-Tsukuyomi genjutsu.

Hebi Sasuke broke a full Tsukuyomi: He didn't. I'm not saying that he doesn't have the ability to, judging from Itachi's words and Sasuke's feat the odds are in his favor. He most likely can break a full Tsukuyomi, or at least resist greatly against it. He obviously didn't do that in the fight though. Keep in mind that Itachi was not did not enter the battle with the intent to win. His purpose the entire fight was to die before Sasuke and to push him into using Orochimaru's power so that he could free him from it.

> The real thing puts the victim out cold in a coma that requires high level medical ninjutsu to escape from once the illusion is over. [ , , ]
> Knowing that, it doesn't make any sense for Itachi to have used the jutsu unless he weakened it to a point where he thought it would only force Sasuke to his limits rather than put him down completely.

Perfect Jinchurikis can't break Tsukiyomi, but they can avoid the pain. Tsukiyomi doesn't alter time, but the victim's perception of time. While Tsukiyomi lasts an instant in the real world, it feels like forever to the victim. As shown with Kakashi, though Tsukiyomi lasts just one second, it was several seconds in Kakashi's mind before he started feeling the pain that Tsukiyomi inflicts. This is because pain, like time perception, is a product of the mind. A Jinchuriki would have no idea that Tsukiyomi is lasting a second, since it would feel like more than a second, it would take more than one second for them to feel the pain in the perception of time Itachi puts them in. The Bijuu can "release" the genjutsu before they perceive the moment the pain starts, which would essentially stop them from feeling pain at all.

I'm probably not explaining it as well as I should be.

You explained it fine, I think I see what your saying. My argument would be that the Bijuu, 1. Can't break Tsukuyomi. The requirements for this particular genjutsu are made pretty clear. and 2. The bijuu isn't being placed under genjutsu. So their perception of the time doesn't change.

1. Nothing indicates the method to break all Genjutsu can't apply to Tsukiyomi
2. No matter, the Bijuu would still attempt to break Tsukiyomi, which would snap the host before they feel the pain.

1."Only someone with Kekkai Genkai and sharingan can stop me!" <---- Referring to Tsukuyomi.
2. > The jutsu lasts an instant in real time.
> The bijuu's perception of time doesn't change.

With those two facts in mind I fail to see how assuming they can break Tsukuyomi, they manage to break it in time.

Excellent summary/coverage, I agree on all points.

Regarding Tsukuyomi's effects on Perfect Jinchuuriki though: because of how genjutsu works fundamentally, I do believe that the Bijuu disrupting their chakra flow should debatably break them of it. But by the time they react to it and do so (due to Tsukuyomi being essentially instant as soon as eye-contact is made), it will already be much too late. Just wanted to elaborate on that point in case someone were to bring it up.
