Warning: Hella long post

So, we know Madara is LITERALLY the most epic character in all of Naruto right? Like it's basically a scientific fact now...LOL....
But, watching yesterday's anime episode reminded me of something: I really like Madara, but I don't UNDERSTAND him.
Am I alone here?
For example, I get his intentions behind the infinite tsukuyomi and we all remember how he was basically chilling for most of the Jubito arc. I mean, the guy seemed to give no ****s about anything but fighting Hashirama. At first I figured he was just biding his time and allowing the alliance to weaken Obito--which turned out to be true as we saw how he used BZ to take over Obito's body.
But do you remember when Obito became the juubi jini? Instead of allowing Hashirama to help take down Jubito, then take control of his body, Madara wanted to get his rocks off fighting Hashirama. And before that, he just laughed off his failed attempt to control Obito with the chakra rods. I mean, the guy laughed like it was nothing. It's possible that he had a few aces up his sleeve, but how could he have been certain that Obito's power as the juubi jin wouldn't render his aces useless?
Could it be that he was confident in the alliance's ability to defeat Jubito? Or could it be that he believed Jubito would be unable to fully handle the juubi's power?
Or could it be that it didn't matter to him who initiated IT so long as it was initiated?
So I guess my questions are:
Who is Madara Uchiha at his core?
Has anyone attempted to psychoanalyze him?
Is he an inconsistent character or is he brilliantly written?
Was he a lover of peace or a lover of war?
[EDIT]- Oh yea and one other thing. He devised the moons eye plan to "save the Uchiha" if we're to believe BZ. But yet he hated and bore a grudge against them? I don't get it.
I can't really tell when you look at the details. This all just seemed like a game to him in a way.
Thoughts?
