Trying to understand how to make gifs

I couldnt really find the right section for this question.
I hope it fits here.

Basically i would like to make gifs. So i read up a bit on the net, how to do this.
I understand windows movie maker can be used for it (which i have).
However, it cannot read realplayer files.
There are a few episodes, which have material, that i would like to use for a gif.
For example, declaration of war, episode 205 (shippuuden). The part with nii yugito.

Does anyone know where i can find a file, with this scene, that windows movie maker can read?
Or does anyone know a gif program that i could get, that can read realplayer files?

How could i describe this best? hhmm. Gifs are animations, moving pics, that last a few secs.
You see them in some signatures on this site for example.
