Well if a senator managed to body slam a reporter the day before voting and still get elected, then yeah I would say people are that dumb.

Trump flip flopped on almost every single issue during his campaign and still kept his support. He even lied about locking up Hillary, saying that was just a good line to use, and people still support him.

The message in Trump's quote is clear. He doubts his popularity would go down, even if what he does is detrimental to those who got him elected. He's pushing the notion that his favor-ability within his core base is high. For the first 4 months, there were policies introduced that would be detrimental to his own supporters. The American Health Care Act, for an example will negatively impact his own base, but like what Trump assumes, his base may still support him.

You should keep in mind that Trump received the lowest percentage of the popular vote since 1876 (population percentage proportion). Trump isn't necessarily as popular as some think Trump is.

So here are the two ways to surmise Trump's comment.

1. He meant it as a compliment to his supporters, which makes it a genuinely terrible analogy and his base pretty dumb for being proud of it.

2. He knows his base is stupid, which is why he said it, because he knows he won't lose support; hence me supporting this argument by mentioning his son-in-law who confirmed that Trump believes his base is stupid.


So either way, it's not really a compliment and anyone taking it as a compliment is not the brightest crayon in the box.

Trump haters are against Trump "wasting" money on a wall and at the same time attack Trump for not wanting to waste money on a voluntary agreement that virtually no country honestly takes seriously. It's really nothing more than a way for the global community to be morally self righteous about climate change w/o actually having to do anything to solve it.

The way i see it, the U.S. being in or out of the agreement isn't going to change the fact that reducing emissions means creating a viable program that makes the need for global fossil fuel dependency extinct over the next 10 yrs. No one is going to do that however because they're too comfortable with the benefits that come with it. As long as the whole world depends on fossil fuels, it hardly matters in the grand scheme of things as to whether the U.S. was part of the agreement or not.

In short, Trump treated the agreement like the joke that it is.
