[Theory] True Motives

Recently, Obito went on and on about how friends only bring suffering. He even told Naruto that Sasuke will eventually betray him again. So I think Obito's true motive isn't about Rin dying. It isn't about the endless wars either nor is it about the world being unfair and cruel. It's about the facade of friendship.

He holds the view that "friends" are just pretenders, that people are willing to turn their backs on their friends, making the world trash. So there are no true friends. Then what is the point? Everyone might as well be fake. At least in IT, he wouldn't know about the pretenders.

Perhaps he isn't mad that Rin died, but mad that Rin sacrificed herself. He viewed Rin as a lier, a person who broke a promise to put friends above all else. Rin, by dying chose the safety of the village( many people that she probably didn't even know) over her friends. By dying voluntarily, she knowingly put her friends in anguish. Also, this is disrespect for what Obito gave up for her.

So, Obito, is angry at this "selfish" sacrifice and yet realizes that he is a hypocrite since he also took the bullet for her. He then realizes that everyone is trash. He refuses to accept this. That is why appeared as if he was crying for Rin. He wasn't, he was crying for the Rin he hoped that she could be. The fake Rin.

That is why he did various seemingly random things like the Uchiha massacre and the Nine Tails attack. Plotwise, if he just wanted to pull off IT, there is no real reason to do these things, especially the Uchiha massacre.

He was observing the world to verify his viewpoint. Seeing Itachi destroy his own family for the sake of the village only futher confirmed his view, that even someone so dedicated to family will betray for the greater good. Seeing someone sacrifice their greatest love ones for mostly strangers is unacceptable. He also wanted to see how Minato would react to a lose lose situation, and Obito was sorely disappointed in the choice.

I also think that why he started this war, he could have captured the remain two Bijuus quitely. That means he still wants to verify his view point.

Simply put, I think his "Two face" design more allegorical than anything.

Summary.

Obito true reason is he believes that people are trash since true friendship doesn't exist.

He also seems to be somewhat ambivalent about this extreme viewpoint so he wants to test the world to verify his stance.

nice theory but yeah obito's just doesn't trust trust friendships because he believes when you have friends one day you will either lose them or they will betray you which will cause you pain and suffer which will later on turn into hatred :yeah:

I remembered when I made the theory of the Juubi Weakness being Loneliness, and so in that topic I re-adjusted the theory since I was off tracks. Yes, Obito's inner fight is about loneliness due his lost faith in true friendship. So I agree with your point of view.
