Or maybe because he was telling the Shonobi alliance how to beat him but they still couldn't pull it off until Gaara and Oonoki entered the fray.

Or maybe because after deciding to tell them how to beat him he decided not to let the Kazekage and Tsuchikage beat him without a fight?
