We don't actually know how close the giant clam needs to be to the mirages and Deidara might as well just exhaust himself trying to destroy illusions, even by using C3.
Mizukage and Mu killed each other and Mu has AoE attacks as devastating as Deidara's so his AoE isn't precisely a point in his favor.

ETA: forgot to add that Mu could fly too.

Deidara has far more destructive power than Mu. Even if he is in a mirage, Deidara will surely be dropping down bombs like C1 / C2 . Eventually, he will destroy the clam or if he drops down C3 not only will he destroy the clam, but he would probably kill the 2nd Mizukage as well.

that was not even a genjutsu i don't think.. because nothing happened, sasuke countered the small blast of c4 using raiton not a genjutsu .. im pretty sure that is just deidara spazzing over the sharingan ..

Large AoE bombs like C3 will cover the battlefield and regardless of whether he can find the Mizukage or not. He will be caught in its blast range and his clam will be killed ending the mirage.

Deidara's AoE is far superior to Mu's AoE so that's not a valid comparison.

You're both assuming the giant clam needs to be next to the mirages while we don't actually know how close it actually was in the manga (we do know the mirages weren't just surrounding it, the clam was reasonably far from them) or if that was the farthest it could be so we can't know for sure wether it will be caught in a C3's blast or not. And that's assuming the Mizukage will remain static, having had the time to figure out Deidara's style while fighting the mirages.

C3's range is enough to destroy a large portion of Sunagakure, a village. With no intel on Deidara, there is no reason why he would be that far from Deidara and the battle that the explosion won't even hurt him.

Regardless. C4 will still finish him off so Mizukage still can't win, not to mention I've yet to see anyone actually tell me how he plans on actually defeating Deidara, as none of his moves can reach him.

I doubt that Deidara will even need C3 for this fight, however, if he needs it then that will surely give him the win. The clam needs to be close enough for the Genjutsu to work and considering that C3 could destroy almost a whole village, it will surely hit the clam.
