It kind of depends. The Rasengan isn't an original technique, and that's definitely true. But at least they tried to make it different.

For Sarada or Uchiha, the Sharingan/Mangenkyo has been done a least a thousand times. However, there's no reason for them to not make her MS abilities unique. For instance, if Sarada inherits Amaterasu, and that's literally it ... That would be an incredible waste of time.

So if they gave Sarada invisible Amaterasu you would say they tried to make it original and different? Come on. We all knew Boruto was going to be a carbon copy of Naruto, maybe with some small tweaks. Which is funny, since he says he's going to go his own way, yet still his only jutsu are the signature moves of Naruto
