Mavis Symbolizes Light
Zeref Symbolizes Darkness
Maybe they're related some how which is why it seems that Mavis is similar to Zeref.
This is why she has conflicting character similar to Zeref.
She is all nice and happy but then all of a sudden she becomes Erie and dark.
Where'as Zeref is dark but for some reason he seems happyish?
Especially the way he looked when he saw natsu...

Zeref dates back from around the time of Acnologia while Mavis shouldn't have been born in that period logically because there should barely be 100 years difference between Makarov's appointment as Guild Leader to that of Mavis.

That being said, I always wondered why Mavis retained her loli girl appearance and why does Zeref look so boyish?
