The Twelve Guardian Ninja (守護忍十二士, Shugonin Jūnishi) were a group of twelve elite warriors, who left their village and pledged their lives to protect the Daimyo of the Land of Fire. The members are identified by the "Fire" kanji (火) marked loincloths they wear. It would seem that some time, before the group was disbanded, some underground organization put a bounty on most of the members.[1] Sora had dreamed of being part of this group. Shikamaru received an invitation from the Daimyo of the Land of Fire to become one of his guards. If he had accepted he would have been on the way to becoming one of the Twelve Guardian Ninja.A group formed before the start of the story, the Twelve Guardian Ninja have for a long time protected the Daimyo. All the original members are dead, but the group stayed alive.
However about ten years before the start of the story, half of the original members began to believe that only the Daimyo should lead the Land of Fire and planned a coup d'etat against the Hokage, and later conquer the rest of the countries. Kazuma tried to remove the Daimyo to replace him with a puppet Daimyo, since the Daimyo didn't support the revolting guards,[2] but he was stopped by Asuma. The ideals split the group in two which led to a fight between them, where only Asuma Sarutobi, Kazuma and Chiriku survived.

Kakuzu called this technique "a gift of the gods". This jutsu is activated by Chiriku using his left hand to make a half-ram and extending his right hand down with his palm parallel to the ground. Music starts playing as Chiriku summons the spirit of Amida. The spirit seems to envelop Chiriku and react to his emotions. The spirit is normally calm and both angelic and peaceful looking, but whenever Chiriku gets angry, the spirit turns red and transforms into a somewhat demonic-looking creature. Amida then attacks Chiriku's target with its 1000 spirit fists. The fists attack at such a high speed and number, it seems almost impossible to block. He uses this technique against Kakuzu and Hidan when they attacked the Fire Temple.
Asuma is shown able to use this technique; although not as effective as Chiriku's.

Chakra Enhanced Trench Knives
Asuma battle style revolved mainly around taijutsu combined with his trench knives. These knives were made of a special metal that was capable of being infused with chakra. With his Flying Swallow (飛燕, Hien), he could extend the blades with his chakra to injure an enemy several feet out of the physical blade's range.
When demonstrating his wind-based chakra for Naruto Uzumaki, Asuma explained that these chakra-covered blades (when utilized by someone with wind-based chakra) possessed enough power to pierce through rock. During the invasion of Konoha, Asuma was able to use these blades in unison with his taijutsu abilities to single-handedly defeated nine Sound ninja (considering that Pakkun eariler stated they were Jonin-level, it was quite an impressive feat) without being hit once. Asuma's fighting style most resembled that of Western Boxing.
In addition to his blades, Asuma could use Fire Release: Ash Pile Burning to breathe out a cloud of superheated ash capable of causing third-degree burns. Because it was ash and not flame, the attack remained in the air around the target, and therefore remained potent for a longer period of time.
