I've been beat the **** out of before by people close to me. I don't take kindly to being hit. Sometimes self defense is the option.

It depends on the situation if you ask me. If you really have no other choice, and they are attacking you, then it's right to attack them back out of self defense. Otherwise it's better to go away and let someone else deal with them
