Alright, so without going to the wiki, here is my definition of what Taijutsu is. Taijutsu is basically combat with the body, so using everything that just your body provides to fight. Which means using your hands to punch, legs to kick and etc. In the narutoverse, where chakra exists, the ninjas use chakra to further enhance their Taijutsu capabilities, that means using chakra to deliver strong blows like Tsunade and Sakura or graceful, yet deadly palms like the Hyuga clan. However, to perform Taijutsu, you don't need chakra although some advanced technique will require chakra and then there is the EIG where Taijutsu becomes awesome. The thing about Taijutsu is that it's literally the bread and butter of the shinobi, everyone uses it and requires no hand seals to perform so it much quicker to snap a neck than to launch a 10+ hand seal water dragon. Rock Lee and Might Guy were the best Taijutsu users in the series and yah that's all I know.
Bread and butter... I like that.
Taijutsu is, as you mentioned, usually split between the kind that requires chakra and the kind that doesn't. The kind that does is powerful, but you also can't combine it with Ninjutsu at the same time since, you know, you're already basically using Ninjutsu, also you can't use two techniques simultaneously. The kind that doesn't, however... that's where things get interesting in my opinion.
Now, snapping a neck is easy if you know what to do and on NB it gets easier still; a single good hit will incapacitate your opponent and, thus, that's the hit we're going for. That's what we fight for. We just need to make contact once to make things count.
The canon list of Taijutsu techniques is full of different stuff, but mainly you'll find basic techniques, many among them who do not require chakra. Consider how useful these are and their infinite potential if they're combined with good Nin techniques.
Now, first of all there's D-ranked techniques. They're the bottom of the barrel, sure, but there's still merit in knowing, analyzing and even using them sometimes... though I've never really made use of them in battle. There are better alternatives, but, eh, still. You know how it goes.
The kick, slap and punch techniques are sooooo basic, but with enough power their versatility shines through. You can slap, kick and punch in a million different ways. Anyway; pick out a technique and analyze it for me.
