energed out of the ground in front of Carl, having buried herself underground the night before training started. She was a little messy with the dirt and all, but gave Carl an acknowledging nod before fussing over herself, clearing off the dust and dirt from her short blond hair, her white blouse, and short black skirt. After a moment, she cleared her throat and stood up straight, speaking in a no-nonsense, yet sensible voice.

"Greetings, student. I am Aigis, and I will be teaching you Earth techniques for this session."

"You are Carl-kun, I presume? Yes, it is only logical."

"Now, before you can proceed to hit me with hard things and such frivolities, let's go over some basics."

"What is Earth? How is it made, formed, and shaped? What are its strengths and weaknesses? Name me some special elements or Kekkei Genkai that have Earth as a component, as well as famous Earth Users in our world. Everything you know."

She waited silently for her student to answer.

(I'm a senpai, not a sensei ^^)

"Doton could be considered the most sturdy and durable. Unlike the other elements, Doton permanently becomes apart of the environment, like how Kurotsuchi of Iwagukre's volcano erupted White Zetsu. All of that is true, unless it's destroyed by an outside force, of course. Then it can be used as a shield, trap, or a blockade against an opponent. An example of it being a trap, is when the Alliance trapped the Juubi inside, then filled it with cement. It can be used to block by erupting a small Doton wall to block Kunai, non-cutting winds, etc. It can withstand heat, and it's naturally superior to water. Due to the fact it can disperse a wave coming it's way. It's weakness is lightning however, shown with Deidara and Sasuke, Sasuke was able to render his attacks ineffective by charging lightning into his Clay Bombs (which is apart of the explosive release, that contains Doton). It can also be used in a liquid-like state, (i.e, mud) only adding to it's versatility. It can also provide a big advantage, since it can literally alter the battleground with it's structures, and traps. Based on my previous learnings from NK, I would firmly agree with him when I say it's the perfect mixture of supplementary, defense, and offense. Users would include, Ohnoki, Kazuzu, Kurotschi, Muu, Hiruzen and others" Carl says tiredly

Aigis listened quietly to her student. For some reason, he had vast knowledge on the many famous battles in shinobi history, as if he were there to witness them firsthand. What more did her student know? Her curiosity was piqued as she licked her lips slightly, intrigued.

"Exceptional. You have a good grasp on the theory of Doton. Kakuzu-sensei has a fierce training regimen; a pity you were unable to experience it."

"But practice is arguably a better teacher. You will get as much out of this training as you put into it!"

"Let us begin with techniques."

She paused for a moment. Then, suddenly, without warning, Aigis slammed her right foot on the ground, causing a few chunks of rock to erupt from the ground. She then placed her hands out, grabbing the chunks and applying shape manipulation and turning them into kunai-shaped rocks. She threw them in quick succession at Carl, giving him little time to react.

"Counter this with the same technique, or you'll die!" she said bluntly.

Her voice softened, just loud enough for Carl to hear while his focus was on the incoming rock kunai. "If you counter successfully, give me the strengths, weaknesses, creative uses, and counters of this technique."

She sort of enjoyed toying with her students. She wasn't a sadistic type of person; rather, someone who liked to see if her students or opponents were worthy.

As the attack advances to Carl, he quickly gathers chakra in his foot and slams it down, similar to what is Sensei did beforehand. Instead of small rock fragments, he erupts a medium-sized wall, large enough to block the impending attacks, That was close... he thought as beads of sweat slide slowly down his face. Afterwards, he puts his hand on the wall and slowly peeks out to see his surroundings, after reassuring himself of his own safety, he emerges fully from behind the large slab of earth.
"The advantages of this attack would be the ability to make-shift any desirable object in mind, from Kunai, to staffs and so on. It can also be used to block incoming attacks too, being a solid mix of an offensive and defensive jutsu. Some disadvantages it's limited range. You don't have to be extremely close your opponent, but you can't engage in long-range combat either. Strategies could be making multiple walls around your opponent, then pounding them with a variety of attacks. Or, one could make-shift a tool, then create a clone, and have the original transform into the tool and engage in combat. At any moment, you would be able to take your enemy COMPLETELY by suprise, putting the battle somewhat in your favor. As for counters, Raiton would be highly recommended. As seeing Doton in general is inferior to the latter, you could ravage through their attacks and defenses." as Carl finishes speaking, he examines his Teacher completely, he then leans against the wall he created earlier and waits for his Teacher's reaponse.

Aigis raised her eyebrows. Carl's chakra was different. With such a simple technique, he was able to create quite a sizable defense. Did he do the right technique? She pondered for a moment. Perhaps it was his enthusiasm; or maybe he was actually a prodigy. Nevertheless, she moved on. This was getting quite interesting...

"Quite an Earth Wall you put up there, Carl-kun. I saw no mistakes with your execution and explanation, either. Although... I'm not sure why you would need to create a large wall, since it's only D-rank defensively. I would have created a small shield from that rock beside you. Furthermore, creating walls out of this basic technique seems rather farfetched; be careful you don't rely on that, if it's not in the description of the technique. It may cost you the fight if you make even a single mistake."

"Moving on. But before we continue, I want to give you a short lesson on elemental strengths and weaknesses, and how they work. It won't be as in-depth as other senseis, but it doesn't hurt to have a foundation."

Aigis handed Carl a piece of paper. On it, she had written some notes on it, along with a few questions.

Elements are strong and weak against each other. Earth is strong against Water. Water is strong against Fire. Fire is strong against Wind. Wind is strong against Lightning. Lightning is strong against Earth. Knowing these fundamentals will shape your counters in a battle.

There are some general rules when using elemental strengths and weaknesses. Here are some basics.

1. If you use an elemental technique, and your opponent counters with its weakness, they can generally use techniques that are a rank lower in order to cancel it out. Higher ranked techniques will overwhelm your jutsu. So, for example, if I were to use a B-ranked Fire technique, you could use C-ranked Water techniques to cancel out the fire. Anything higher ranked than that will overwhelm my Fire technique and continue towards me, and anything lower ranked than that will not affect my Fire technique. This only applies if the jutsus clashing have elemental relationships.

2. When elements that are neutral to each other clash, or if they are of the same element, In general, they should be approximately of the same rank in order to cancel each other out. However, it also depends on the jutsu and its usage.

Disclaimer: these are universally followed, but that doesn't mean they are 100% ironclad. In battle, the key is the USAGE and DESCRIPTION of how you use a technique. If you can provide a counter that makes sense, you will be able to gain the advantage.

"Ask questions if you have any." said Aigis, as she walked over to Carl's Earth Wall, while he was reading the note.

Breaking off a piece of Earth from the Earth Wall with her hands, Aigis manipulated the piece of Earth with her shape and nature chakra, forming it into a staff, which she swung around elegantly.

"Our next technique involves turning rocks into staffs. It has a similar utility to the Hokage Hiruzen's summon, Enma, although it's not nearly as powerful. You can use it to melee attack your enemies."

"A variation of this technique allows you to create smaller staffs and use them like spears to throw at a target."

Aigis pointed at some practice dummies in the distance.

"Try this technique on those dummies, and you know what to do."

(Doton: Gansetsukon) - Earth Release: Rock Section Cane
Rank: D
Type: Supplementary/Offense
Range: Short (Mid on throw)
Chakra Cost: 10
Damage Points: 20
Description: This technique allows the user to take a small chunk of rock and turn it into the shape of a staff. The user can then use it as a melee weapon or throw it with pinpoint accuracy at their opponent. A variation of this technique allows the user to create several staffs and launch them at the target, but with less accuracy.

Carl notes what his Teacher says, I guess I really should have created a smaller wall, not really fan of being defeated....anyway, time to focus on training. After he finishes reading the note, he puts it in his back pocket, and turns to see his Teacher wielding a large staff created by a small piece of the wall he made earlier. He walks over to the wall himself, and breaks off one of the edges. Then, he focuses all his chakra, and attempts to manipulate the rock to change it's shape. At first, it didn't work, but after he applied a considerable amount of chakra and energy, he managed to form a staff, smaller than Aigis, but a staff nonetheless. Acknowledging it's range, he takes a couple steps forward, and throws the arm with staff backward, he aims, then proceeds to lunge it forward. After hitting one of the dummies dead center, he turns around and looks at his Aigis.

"The advantages of this technique would be it's ability to be crafted by any surrounding rock. This could prove useful when you're on a shortage, or cease to have any weapons left while facing a formidable opponent. Others would include it's accuracy when hitting a target, being dead-on, or very close. It can also be used in close combat aswell, making it useful for two situations." He walks towards Aigis, then sits on a rock near her, he sighs while continuing to explain the mechanics and weaknesses, "Now, as for weaknesses, I would say it's inability to go over long distances. If you're trying to gain ground, you really can't rely on the technique to help you achieve that. To be honest, I can't really come up with other weaknesses, as seeing I myself consider it to be pretty useful. Now, moving onto combinations, one could use
(Doton No Jutsu) - Earth Release Technique, to create a small shield, while they create the spear. The shield would protect them momentarily against any incoming attacks, until the user is ready to counter attack with the spear. Counters would include gaining your distance, and using large long range attacks to overwhelm the spear. If used by a throw, a Fuuton jutsu could redirect the spear, conpletely missing you."

Carl yawns, and rubs his eyes, the techniques somewhat tired him out, he grabbed a small gourd from his waist, and drank some water.

"...Tired already? Earth has the largest amount of jutsu of any element, and we haven't even started C-ranks!" she gave a small chuckle. Carl had a certain charm to him; he seemed like one of those students who tried hard to act cool, but was secretly enjoying himself. But maybe she was just thinking too much into it.

Allowing the staff to crumble, she spoke.

"Good. These early techniques can be rather simple, so I won't expect long-winded speeches on each of them. However, as we move along to higher ranked techniques, I do expect more questions and more detailed analysis to come up."

"Our final D-rank technique first requires you to channel Earth Chakra into your dominant arm. Then, you will allow it to release from your chakra points towards the ground. If you are successful, you will dislodge pieces of Earth that will shape into rocks around you. After that, use your chakra control to make them float around you in a ring formation. You can then choose to fling the rocks with your chakra at an opponent or target, either one at the time or all at once."

"Relatively straightforward. Go ahead and try it."

Aigis is right, we haven't even started C-Ranks yet! After this, I gotta get in shape... he nervously thinks to himself. His Teacher, Aigis, she was different. She could be stern and assertive, yet kind and informative. She was unique in her own right, he liked that. But getting onto the jutsu, Carl listens carefully to her instructions, Seems pretty simple, I think I got this, he then channels chakra into his right arm. After he feels like he has enough, he raises it in the air, and swiftly squats down while slamming it on the ground. He forcefully pours his chakra onto the surface, as he does this medium-sized pieces of Earth, slowly rise from the ground. As they begin levitating around him in a circular motion, he uses his chakra control to shape them into sturdy rocks. At a boy, you got this, with a quickness, he takes his right arm and directs all the rocks, to the field of dummies. After hitting them, he doesn't feel as tired as before, but he's still a bit fatigued, Looks like my body is getting used to it, and fast...

He sits on a flat rock, doing the usual routine, "Ah, this jutsu seems to be fit for a couple of interesting things. One, even though it's offensive, once the rocks at rotating around you, you could use them to block weak attacks, such as kunai, shurikens, staffs, and so on. The distance also isn't THAT bad, it could work in some cases. Now as for it's short-comings, I can say the preparation to do the technique itself. If your opponent is faster than yourself, then it shouldn't be a problem for them to attack you before your hand hits the ground. Also, if they gain distance, it'll be ineffective, since the rocks have a limited range." Carl reaches down to his gourd, and takes a sip of water, then quickly returns back to his explaination.

"Combinations could be a Fuuton jutsu, to help carry the rocks a little further. Or, they can be used to increase the initial speed and hit firce. Strategies against this would be hitting your opponent before they could mold the rocks. Or attempting to blind them, so they'll be less likely to hit you."

"Well done. Yes, this technique can actually be used to block simple kunai and weapons; one of the examples in which an offensive technique can be used defensively. The best defense is a good offense, if I used that phrase correctly..."

"One of the primary disadvantages of techniques like these are their need to be maintained through chakra control. In a fight, these types of moves can be held onto for more than one turn, but you cannot simultaneously perform other elemental ninjutsu or techniques at the same time. So, for example, were I to allow the rocks to float around me, I couldn't perform a water technique while they are doing so; I'd need to shoot the rocks away, since my focus will be on them."

"When you make the distinction between jutsus you 'spray and pray' or have to 'control', you will make less mistakes."

Once Aigis finished her explanation, Carl would see that she suddenly plunged into the ground, as if being sucked in by the very Earth itself. She disappeared almost instantaneously, and Carl observes that the ground she had been standing on had been turned to a fine sand.

Underground, Aigis burrowed through the Earth, able to sense Carl's presence due to the abilities the technique had given her. Once she was directly below Carl, she smiled.

Suddenly, Aigis's hands erupted from the ground, grabbing onto Carl's legs. Before her student could react, Aigis pulled him downward. Carl felt the sensation of sinking into quicksand. His head was the only thing left up on the surface, his body stuck in the Earth. Aigis reemerged from the ground directly in front of him and tilted her head playfully.

"These next two techniques are some of my favorites! It's a great way to disable an opponent with a simple combination. I'd give you a further explanation of the inner workings of the technique, but I think the scroll descriptions should suffice. But do ask questions if you have any, ok?"

Aigis tossed the Jutsu Scrolls she had been reading at the ground in front of Carl. Her student, now simply a head sticking out of the ground, read the Jutsu descriptions:

(Doton: Moguragakure no Jutsu) – Earth Release: Hiding like a mole technique
Rank: C
Type: Supplementary
Range: Long
Chakra cost: 15
Damage points: N/A
Description: The user changes earth into fine sand by channeling chakra into it, allowing the user to dig through it like a mole. While underground one can sense what is happening on the surface and use the information to launch a surprise attack on the enemy. Once can also hide deep in the ground, escaping to a depth where the enemy cant reach. It also appears that after digging, the ground can be returned to its original state, leaving no trace of where the user entered the earth. While inside the earth, the user cannot make handseals and can only use Earth techniques below C-Rank. If he tries to do a higher ranked technique, he'll disrupt the Hiding like a mole technique and be left crushed.

(Doton: Shinju Zanshu no Jutsu) - Earth Release: Double Suicide Decapitation Technique
Rank: D
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 10
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user, emerging from the ground below the target area, pulls down the opponent so that only their head is above ground. Unable to move, the opponent can easily be decapitated or tortured.
Note: user must already be underground through the use of (Doton: Moguragakure no Jutsu) – Earth Release: Hiding like a mole technique

"Try that same combination on me, I'll be waiting on that side of the training field. Just don't stay there too long, or you'll become 'one with the Earth'."

She winked and walked over a distance away, leaning against one of the tree stumps and waiting for her student to comply.

Ugh, I probably got sand in my hair, that'll be a ***** to get out, Carl starts spreading his chakra throughout the ground, as the hard rock slowly turns into sand, he hums a tune. When it's finished, drops down, and tunnels his way through the ground. Sensing her location up above, he goes directly under Aigis, "This is payback" he whispers excitedly. He forces his hands out and grabs her ankles, effectively pulling her down as quick as he can, only until her head his visible. Mimicking her from earlier, he re-emerges directly infront of her, his face covered with a silly smile.

"Now, I think it's time I explain my thoughts on the technique, no?" he says mockingly. "Some noteable perks to this technique is the ability to go underground. This can prove useful when dodging attacks. Added with that other technique, it allows you to dodge, conceal your movements, and counter strike to your wish. Now, some weakness might be if the opponent is familiar with the jutsu. They can send a surge of electricity through the ground hitting, and damaging you. If you attempt to drag them under, due to the elemental properties, they can charge electricity through their body, rendering the Earth technique, useless. I think you covered the combinations though" he says with a giant grin on his face. He plops down on the ground in a criss-cross sitting position, and gently puts his hand on his head.

Nodding in approval, Aigis spoke, her head sticking out of the ground.

"Having a Shadow Clone perform this is a good strategy; you can save him for later, or have a surprise attack. You can also burrow through Large, dense Earth constructs. So, if there's a mountain between you and your opponent, you can burrow through it to reach him on the other side. You burrow through Earth with this technique, although sometimes, it doesn't have to be necessarily underground."

Channeling Raiton chakra through her body, Aigis released a powerful omnidirectional current from her body that dispersed and destroyed the Earth trapping her. It sunk in, creating a small hole around her, from which she stepped out from.

(Raiton: Chidori Nagashi) - Lightning Release: One Thousand Birds Current
Rank: A
Type: Offense/Defence
Range: Short (Mid if channeled through a medium)
Chakra Cost: 30
Damage Points: N/A (+10 if used to boost weapon damage)
Description: This jutsu allows the user to generate non-focused electricity from their body. It can be used as an omnidirectional attack or be channeled through weapons, the ground or other conductive mediums. Because the electricity isn't focused, it doesn't kill on contact, instead it has great numbing and paralyzing effects. To channel Nagashi through a medium, the user needs to focus the technique into one of his hands which will then be put in contact with the medium and can only choose to either do a widespread attack throughout his whole body or to channel it into something; he cannot achieve both usages at the same time. Despite not having much destructive or damaging properties, Nagashi can be used to destroy low rank earthen and wooden structures and even negate chakra on the ground to stop high ranked earth and wood techniques. It has also been noted that Lightning Specialists that have mastered Lightning to the highest degree can resist total paralyzation, although they still feel the pain and numbing effects.
Note: Paralyzation lasts 1 turn if sucessful but is ineffective against bios who have a primary Lightning Specialty

"You're doing very well so far. The further we move along, the less I will lecture you on each jutsu. However, I do expect more inquisitive questions; oftentimes, there may be specific situations or uses of techniques that aren't found in the description. Do not be afraid to get creative."

Poof. Aigis created a Shadow Clone at mid range from Carl.

"Let's shake things up a little bit. Figuratively and literally. These next two techniques are two of my favorite C-rank Earth techniques, offensively. The first technique has you channeling Earth chakra to the ground, in which spiky earth pillars will protrude like spikes, skewering your target. Fast, simple, and lethal if done right."

"The second technique is one that's also commonly used. Applying the same principle as the first technique, this time, you cause a small earthquake that can throw off your opponent's balance and aim. Criminally underestimated."

"Now, my clone is going to attack you. Use a combination of these two moves, along with a third one of your choice, to defeat her."

Performing the Tiger Hand Seal, Aigis's Shadow Clone exhaled a flaming breath from her mouth. Applying shape manipulation, the flame turned into a series of fiery bullets, aimed directly at Carl. They would burn him alive if he didn't somehow find a way to block, dodge, or throw off her aim...

( Katon: Karyūdan ) - Fire Release: Fire Dragon Bullet
Rank: C
Type: Offense
Range: Short/Mid
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: 30
Description: The user exhales a flame breath from their mouth after making the tiger hand seal. This technique can be used in conjunction with Earth Release: Earth Dragon Bullet to ignite the projectiles fired by the latter technique, making it more devastating.

(here are the jutsu descriptions)

(Doton: Ganchūsō) - Earth Release: Stone Spikes
Rank: C
Type: Attack
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: 30
Description: This technique lets the user create a few rock pillars that will protrude from the ground to skew the target. The rock pillars will even pass through obstacles to reach their target if these are less dense. The pillars/spikes can be done in any earthen surface, including other earth techniques of the user.

(Doton: Yochi no Douyou) - Earth Release: World Shaking
Rank: C
Type: Offensive
Range: Short - Mid
Chakra cost: 15
Damage points: N/A
Description: The user will concentrate and release their chakra into the ground to create a small tremer that can result in making the enemies lose their footing and fall to ground or miss the aim of a given technique.

Just as the clone was prepared to launch the attack, Carl quickly gathers all his chakra, then release it into the ground with a sudden burst. With the ground shaking tremendously (averagely, small tremor), the clone's attack misses him and hits a nearby tree. Aiming to prevent any futher scorching techniques, he quickly creates and erupts pillars from the ground, piercing the doppleganger.

"THAT'S RIGHT!" Nobody's messin' with Carl Grimes"

He then remembers what Aigis had said to him earlier, Questions? Well I have none so far, so I suppose as the training gets more difficult, i'll ask better suited questions. He then removes a small bottle of water from his backpack's pouch, opening it hastily, he gulps as much as he can before it runs out. Wiping the remaining water from the corners of his mouth, with his now crispy sleeve, he slowly walks towards Aigis.

"Simce I don't have any questions, as of yet, i'll do the regular routine. If I do though, i'll certainly ask you. Anyway, an advantage to these techniques would be causing your opponent to lose aim, and while given that opening, allowing you the chance to strike. The rumbling jutsu can be used by throwing your opponent off balance, then you can go in for whatever strike you chose. It can also throw off techniques too, saving you in a pinch. Now as for the spike one, protruding spikes would pierce the enemy, if not you caused them to temporarily fall back which can be used to your advantage. Now for diadvantages for each, I say the spike's range is a little disappointing. As seeing you'd want to cover long distances. Now, as for the rumble one, you'd have to ve on the ground with that opponent for it to work. Combinations mean you can do what I just did, and other. With Gale Palm, after making them lose their footing, you can knock them over, THEN strike.

Carl yawns and puts his hands in his pockets.

(For future reference, remember to always put the jutsu in the order that you perform them in, otherwise it can lead to confusion. Otherwise, excellent work ^^)

The "cool act" again. Aigis couldn't help but giggle slightly. Her clone poofed away.

"Good. The World Shaking technique can affect everything in mid range from you; you become the epicenter of an outward assault, it spreads in concentric circles around you. A nice area attack."

"The Stone Spikes are also a good way to cause your opponent to lose footing. Combining both will most likely force your enemy to take up into the air. If your enemy does this, remember to always react accordingly. If you can control the terrain or how your opponent moves, that's nearly as important as using a jutsu correctly."

"From now own, in your advantages and disadvantages sections, be sure to include creative uses and counters if an opponent were to use it against you. Nothing too long unless you feel it important."

"Our next jutsu has you molding Earth chakra in your mouth. You will then spit a thick globule of mud at your opponent. When using this jutsu, be sure to have proper aim; where you hit your opponent can be integral to your strategy."

"Proceed."
she said curtly.

It was a really hot day (where I am, it really is  ), and Aigis sat on a tree stump, watching Carl perform the technique. She took a drink of water and unbuttoned the top button of her blouse, allowing her some breathing room for her head, neck and upper body. She ran her hand inside her blouse, wiping off some sweat. She crossed her legs and leaned forward, watching Carl.

Hearing Aigis' words, Carl nods in approval, removing his jacket, he reveals a short black t-shirt, with a slight dip in the collar. He sweeps his bangs to the side and wipes his damp forehead, Why is it so damn hot? He wondered, but determined to perform this next technique with as much proficiency as possible, he disregards the blazing and turns himself towards the set of practice dummies. "Let's make this quick, I reaaaallly need some shade".

Conserving energy to continue on, Carl jogs to the set of sturdy practice dummies. He gathers his Doton chakra from within his mouth, forming a glob of sticky mud, while he's jogging, he closes his left eye, aiming accordingly. Once comfortable with the spot he's chosen to fire to, he spits the wad where the dummies eyes would be. Halting himself just when he's right infront of the latter, he takes his left arm and raises it to the dummies' face. Cautiously, he pokes the wad of mud with great curiosity. "Sticky, and runny, but firm. Damn, i'm so awesome!" he says springing up and down, letting out his boyish and playful side. Looking back at Aigis, he quickly stops this act, returning to his 'cool' demeanor, "I mean, yeah, cool" he states while adding a shrug to the comment.

As he makes his way back towards Aigis, he picks up his previously dropped jacket, and throws it over his left shoulder. Finally reaching the shade, he sits down with his eyes closed and his hands behind his head, leaning under a tall oak tree. "Finally reached the shade, but moving on, his technique can come in handy. The main purpose, and advantage, is to blind your opponent, to give you the chance of delivering the final blow. Unless they have the Byakugan, I don't see them disregarding this so easily. Now as for a disadvantage, I might say aim. Unlike just now, you're going to be constantly pressured in the midst of battle, not allowing you to do much of anything with that much precision. Now as for combinations, I highly recommend using Yochi no Douyou before this technique. This allows you to throw your opponent off balance, then you can blind 'em with Mud Shot. Afterwards, you can strike 'em however you want."

Carl peeks his left eye open, barely, to see Aigis' expression.

For the slightest moment, Carl could see a thin line of blush across Aigis's face. Her eyes darted from making eye contact with Carl to looking at the training dummy he had defeated. Aigis liked to think of herself as quite stoic and not easily fazed. However, Carl had a certain charisma that made her feel comfortable around him; like a good friend. She didn't mind too much, though. Clearing her throat, she regained her composure and spoke in her trademark tone of voice; quick, efficient, and clipped.

"Projectiles have certain properties. If you double the amount of projectiles you create, each individual projectile is reduced in rank."

"Let's do a quantitative example. If I have a C-ranked projectile technique, and I allow the technique to split into two separate projectiles, each individual one will be D-ranked. If I split those D-ranked projectiles into two, making four total, I will have 4 E-ranked projectiles. The overall technique is still C-ranked, but each part is added to a whole."

"Now, I want you to apply this to an S-ranked technique. Please tell me how you can split these techniques, and what rank they will all be at the end. Go from S-rank all the way down to E-rank."

"Let me know if you have questions."

While Carl was giving his explanation, Aigis beckoned him to walk over to a nearby cave. It was a medium sized one, somewhat buried in the ground. The entrance stuck up. It looked like an anthill.

"For this next jutsu, you will perform one hand seal and touch an Earth structure: in our case, this cave. You will channel your unfocused chakra to break up the Earth, allowing it to collapse on itself. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this was the jutsu that killed Obito Uchiha back in the Third Great Ninja War... or so the stories tell."

(Doton: Iwa Yado Kuzushi) - Earth Release: Stone Lodging Destruction
Rank: C
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Long
Chakra cost: 15
Damage Points: N/A (up to 60)
Descripton: The user will do one hand seal and cause nearby earth structures (either natural occurring ones on the field (such as cave ceilings, cliffs, etc), man made (buildings, etc) or jutsu made (up to C-Rank active structures)) to collapse and fall. This technique allows the ninja to control nearby stone and rock and dislodge any vulnerable or sensitive spots, causing the structure to collapse. This can be especially useful if in a cave or a stone lodging. The technique can loosen the rocks and cause them to come raining down on whomever is trapped inside. The damage depends on the size of the cavern or rock lodging above or nearby the target and not on the amount of chakra used which doesn't need to be high. A large cave with a thick ceiling can easily do the physical damage equivalent to an A-Rank technique but due to the damage not being focused or chakra fueled, its also easily defendable.

As Carl begins to walk over to the cave, he gives Aigis a slight nod of approval, "Well, when we apply this rule to an S-Rank technique, let's perhaps say Raiton. We can easily split the lightning in to ten total attacks. So let's say we use, 'Lightning Style: False Darkness Spear; which is emitted from the mouth, I or anyone who follow this principle, can split the spear into ten smaller, less powerful ones. Due to the six ranks, and each attack being split makes two, that'll result in ten E-Rank spears being shot at the opponent, atleast, I think I got that right," he laughs.

Arriving at the cold, damp cave, Carl looks around, letting out a small yell, he listens to his distorted echo call back to him, "Hellloooo?" it says, bouncing off every corner, and nook of the dark, natural tunnel. Regaining his focus, he listens to Aigis' instructions, doing as she says, he takes his left hand and forms a simple handseal. Taking his right hand, he slowly puts it on to the cold rock structure before him, releasing his unfocused chakra into the wall. As he does this, he feels small tremors along the right-side of the cave, eventually the wall weakens enough to the point large rocks start falling towards the back of the cave, quickly taking his hand off, the tremors come to a halt. The wall remains weakened, but is sturdy enough to stay in place for the time being. Carl then walks out the front entrance, feeling the heat essentially cook him as soon as he leaves, he endures and turns to Aigis.

"Although the technique itself is nice, it's very situational. You'll more than likely have to be confined in a cave similar to this, to be able to utilize it at it's full potential. Despite that, you're able to use it against other rock structures of it's rank, therefore it's not entirely wasted. An advantage would be once used, depending on the situation, it can effectively trap your opponent in a designated area. A bad side is, you're pressured to get out too, plus it can only weaken things on it's level, therefore if your opponent utilizes a higher ranked Earth construct, this jutsu is meaningless. As for countering it, like I said, in caves you can easily use 'Hiding Like a Mole' to burrow deep underground and escape. I think I got everything,"
he finishes up, taking in a deep breath, and giving a long exhale, stretching both his arms forward. "Man, this sure can be exhausting," he moans, plopping to the ground. He stares at the sky with his piercing blue eyes, gazing at the clouds, wondering if this'll all pay off. Snapping out of it, he realizes one thing; he's going to be the best. Therefore, he shouldn't doubt himself, believing in himself is going to get him extremely far, so he puts all his faith in Aigis, at the moment, they're bound together by fate. Student and Teacher, he trusts her completely, thanks to your teachings, I can become a better Shinobi, i'll make sure to thank you when I become Mizukage....Aigis

(Man, that post. Feels, dude, feels :T_T: )

"To counter this technique, I'd perform a higher ranked Earth jutsu or simply use a wind technique to blow away the rocks. The rocks do A-rank damage, but they're only natural formations and not controlled by one's chakra, making them relatively easy to counter."

"Good. Now, the next..."

Aigis observed as Carl plopped down to the ground. She was about to reprimand him, but something about his expression seemed different, stopping her in her tracks. She couldn't quite put her finger on it; she was a very objective individual; abstract concepts took longer for her to comprehend. But looking at Carl, she could see his conviction, his determination. She had never met such a charismatic individual since... Aigis shook her head slightly. There was something unspoken between the both of them as student and teacher. Their eyes met, the piercing blue of his eyes meeting her very own blue. From that moment on, something just "clicked" in her head, and she wondered if Carl had felt it too.

"Let's continue, Carl-kun..." she said, her voice expressing a slight sincerity and softness that contrasted her typical demeanor.

Aigis was smiling, with a sense of warmth and almost sisterly-like disposition. If Carl was going to put in his all, she would too. She made a silent promise. This young man confirmed her intuition: he was going to become great. Composing herself, she continued as usual, but with a newfound bond.

"I will expedite your training by allowing you to perform two jutsus at once. I trust you will continue to put in effort."

"These next two techniques can be performed in a combination. For the first technique, perform the Tiger hand seal, and channel your Earth chakra through the ground underneath you and your opponent into a river of mud. It requires a high level of manipulation to do so."

"Once you've done that, you will subsequently perform the Ram → Horse → Dragon hand seals and apply your shape manipulation to create a Dragon's Head made of mud that emerges from the mud river. From the mouth of the dragon, you will then allow it to shoot concentrated mud bullets at your target."

"Now, if you have a fire jutsu, I want you to perform it last, and combine it with the mud bullets you would have fired in order to create something almost like lava pellets. Fantastic for widespread destruction and area clearing. Be sure to select the proper Fire jutsu to use."

Aigis directed Carl to a new set of targets for him to try the jutsus on.

Upon hearing Aigis' words, Carl jumps up and nods. Sweeping his bangs, which are now in his face, to the left. Taking in a deep breath, he turns to the practice dummies which oddly resemble people he's faced before, "Kinda creepy, but it'll do" he murmurs. Forming the Tiger handseal, he concentrates, then charges his chakra into the ground, forming a river made of mud from underneath. A little startled, he jumps to the right side, preventing him from falling in himself. "That was pretty close..." he says, sighing in relief.

Quickly regaining his focus, Carl weaves through three handseals, [Ram → Horse → Dragon], then focusing his chakra, he manipulates the rising mud into the shape of a Dragon head. As the Dragon's mouth opens, he takes his left hand, directing it to shootmud bullets at the odd looking dummies. As the bullets hit each one with extreme accuracy, Carl's eyes beam, impressed with his progress.

Now, Carl turns toward Aigis who appears to be on the same side as him, ready to explain what he's learned. "Well, for the mud river jutsu, thingy, it throws your enemy off, and can possibly carry them away, if they don't react in time. It also can be used as a medium to create the mud Dragon, so that's pretty neat. An advantage is being able to sweep your enemies away, if they get to close. It can also help with the second technique, which is pretty neat. Now, a downside is, i'm not completely sure whether the opponent can charge chakra on their feet, to escape or not. Moving on though, the second one is used by, using the mud river as a medium, then applying shape manipulation to create a Dragon head with a gaping mouth that can shoot mud bullets. A good thing is, you can add fire to the bullets, making the attack become even more dangerous than before. Now, something bad would be the fact it requires a stream of mud to perform, could prove troublesome if you don't exactly have time to perform the mud river."

Aigis felt a sticky mud flow at her feet. She looked down, seeing her shoes get dirty. She frowned slightly, and once Carl was finished with his techniques, she cleaned them off a little, ensuring that there was little dirt left behind.

"Channeling chakra to your feet wouldn't really work; the mud river is fast and quick enough to push you back if you get caught in it. Always counter a jutsu with another jutsu. Those are the rules of the game."

"Now, I want you to perform the Rat, Horse, Dog, and Snake hand seals. You'll then create rock pillars that rise out from the ground. These pillars can be controlled by your chakra and manipulated around the battlefield up to mid-range. When you've surrounded your opponent, allow these pillars to swarm and trap your opponent's movements, stopping them, with a type of 'prison' shape."

"What would be a good follow-up technique, in your opinion?"

(Doton: Ganchūrō no Jutsu) - Earth Release: Rock Pillar Prison Technique
Rank: C
Type: Defence/supplementary
Range: Short/Mid
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: N/A
Description: After performing the required hand seals Rat → Horse → Dog → Snake and they then create a large amount of rock pillars to rise from under ground. They can then be controlled to surround their opponent and create a bamboo-like prison of rock.

"The second one in this set is also a defensive technique. Strike the ground with your hands and channel your Doton chakra to form a slab of Earth that rises up, creating a wall of sorts that can protect from the front."

"Another variation has you manipulating the ground so two slabs of Earth rise up on your left and right and move away from each other, creating a hole. Think of it like a trap door that lets anything below it fall in. The hole isn't humongous, but it's probably sizable enough to be useful in certain situations."

(Doton: Doroku Gaeshi) - Earth Release: Earth Shore Return
Rank: C
Type: Defence
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: N/A
Description: After striking the ground with their hands, the user manipulates the ground in front of him to form a slab that tilts upwards, up to 90º, creating a wall of earth that can defend from incoming frontal attacks. In addition, the user can also create 2 slabs that will rise and tilt to the sides in front of him, as if "opening up" the ground. This can be done to create a clear path if anything hazardous is above the ground in that specific area.
