Advantages
1.) Since I am firing multiple projectiles, I have a greater chance of hitting my opponent compared to a single shot.
2.) Since I can shoot them in any direction, I can prevent my opponent from taking a strategic point in the battlefield on their next turn by assuring that there will be fire balls there to block them.
3.) Good for situations with multiple opponents.
Disadvantages
1.) After the point of release, I have no control over the path it takes
2.) Can be evaded with relative ease
3.) Travels in a straight line
How you would use it in battle?
I would use this technique for positioning purposes mainly. For example, if me and my opponent are at short range, but I need them to be long range for what ever reason, I would use this jutsu to herd them in the direction that I wanted them to go.
How you would counter it?
I would counter this by either simply side-stepping the fireballs, or by using a D+ rank water jutsu to extinguish the flames.
How do you perform it?
Hiei stands at attention, stoic with his head down.
"First, I gather my fire chakra in my chest until the heat is almost unbearable, then I move it to my throat."
Hiei's face starts to turn red, as he tilts his head upward and shoots 3 cantaloupe sized fire balls about 5 meters ahead.
"Then I force it out in sections," Hiei says grinning as smoke escapes the corners of his mouth.
