You are precisely correct. Just a few things that you can do with Earth. This derives off the idea of the creativity, which, by the way, is extremely important in order for one to completely enjoy and be skilled at RP.
Many of the jutsus limits are but your own imagination.

Alright, well, what might be Earth be strong and weak against, and why?

Earth is weak against Lightning because Earth is a eletrical conductor and Lightning can easily break through it.
Earth is strong against Water because Earth can block the Water or absorb it.

Alright, now let's dive fully into the Earth Element. For this next jutsu, I want you to send your Earth chakra within yourself and then become one with the Earth by sinking fully into it. Once you have, I will then place my clone on the place where you were originally. Then stick your hands out of the Earth, grab my clone around his legs, and then pull him deep into the Earth while pulling yourself out at the exact moment.

- I send my Earth chakra down my whole body, then I start, carefully, to merge it with the Earth below me. When I am done, I start to use my chakra to push the Earth away, making me sink and disappear from Sensei's view.

- By merging my chakra with the Earth, I know where the person is standing. Coming quietly from down, I grab the clone's foot, and drag him down, and at the same time, I push myself up, letting the clone submerged in Earth
