I think Shikamaru and his dad are almost the same in terms of intelligence so I made them tie at number 2 spot. I did give Orochimaru and Kabuto an edge because they were able to decipher the stone tablets without having a sharingan or rinnegan. Also they have learned so many forbiden jutus and even improved the edo tensei.

Well I believe it was more shikaku rather then Shikamaru

NO, I would put Obito before Sasuke. He tricked Akatsuki for years and had the whole world thinking he was Madara.

He improved edo tensei and even become a sage, something orochimaru never accomplished. He even figured out that Tobi is not Madara. I think he is very smart and as conniving as orochimaru.

why is kabuto anywhere near smart he simply made his sm to fight uchihas thats not smarts its scary if anything he learned everything from oro he is not smart it goes

When did he show any kind of special strategic abilities or was wise enough to make a good plan??He rushes in on most of his battles and needs help to get away with it.
On the kage summit he rushed in and got kicked.He needed a third party,that wasn't part of his team,to save him.
Neither his fight with Bee had any strategic or plan.

shikaku is alot smarter than u think although you did rank him a genius at the top.

The way he uses his Amaterasu as a shield against Raikage and being able to kill the fire to save Karin is pretty original and brilliant in my opinion.

Yeah I agree on that.
But the part that he rushes in a fight without making a single preparation or a plan, even though he knows the opponents and their abilities, and he needs to be saved cause he gets cornered all the time seems pretty dumb to me.
He is blinded by his desires in a fight and he underestimates his opponents.
He is smart and knows how to control and take full advantage of his powers but he fails to plan ahead before a battle.
For that reason I think he lacks one of the prerequisites to be on a top 5 list of this kind.

I think, on my part, the real geniuses are Minato and Itachi, both were extremely talented as ninjas. At the same time very much intelligent, on battle strategy and perception. A combination of the two different kinds of intelligence.

This list is perfect. I'd consider putting Kakazu on it if it weren't for the whole 'caught offguard by a shadow clone' trick which was plot no jutsu but technically DID still happen.

People underestimate just how smart Oro and Kabuto really are.

With that list I think Kakashi should be above Itachi then Minato after. But I agree with the above Sasuke should be on that list maybe with Itachi.

whats the matter with you? i don't know why you think itachi is same level as sasuke. itachi is way above kakashi and minato.. its already proofed by ninja and also 1st hokage. itachi was age 7 who already smartest even better than oro and kabuto, shika and his dad. for me i think itachi is number one smartest. like 3rd hokage said..
