5.) The Six Paths of Pain
4.) Kakazu
A genuinely scary villain, maybe the first Naruto had. The sheer ruthlessness in the way he fights, talks and kills is just good to watch and it's clear Kakazu was a villain who could've stuck around for much longer. Almost impossible to kill and arguably the best and most interesting jutsu moveset of any character ever. Tainted by his 100 years of life and the humiliation at the hand of his village, life to him has become about nothing but economical gain. Sad to see the guy taken out by deus-ex machina. Guess the best things can't stick around forever.
3.) Sound 4
Yup, all 4. Because otherwise they'd take up 4/5 spots on the list and that's just not fair. The most underrated characters in the entire story and got taken out before their time. Interesting chemistry, awesome jutsu and proof that the Hidden Sound ninja are just the most interesting. Their curse marks aren't that great neither are the way Tayuya & Sakon/Ukon got defeated but oh well.
2.) Kabuto Yakushi
If you count him as a villain anyway, the most interesting and complex characters in fiction are always the snakes. The sneaky tricksters who you always have to be wary of, Kabuto was awesome from the second he revealed himself as a spy in the Forest of Death and he's just kept getting better and better ever since. An unpredictable nin who wasn't afraid to use his head and play dirty. One of the most hated characters by the general fandom but that cockiness is just what makes him so great. Mix that in with a genuinely subtle yet tragic backstory, an entire edo army at his disposal and the amazing depth of a man with an identity crisis (a very grown up theme that I can even relate to) and you have my favourite character in the manga. As an actual villain material though?
1.) Obito Uchiha
Boom. The best written character the story has probably seen, whilst not chosen by Kishi to be the final threat of this war...you just have to think...why? This fallen from grace knucklehead's story has been just as in-depth and challenging as the titular character, having been there from the opening seconds of the show and caused every obstacle so far in Naruto's path (dead parents, 9 tails, evil Sasuke, Akatsuki, Ninja War, Madara, Juubi) Obito is a very deep and layered character from a writing perspective and you could write a case study on the psychology involved but from the Fall of Pain to the Great Shinobi War to the 10 Tails Revival- Obito is my favourite antagonist by far. Now if only they could just kill him off.
