Note: Hiruzen doesn't count because that's his prime self.
Madara - Does not make the list because no one saw black Zetsu's betrayal coming. No one did.
Some may wonder why Minato and Tobirama didn't make the list. That is because the war has made them look stronger really, and despite going up against Juubi jin Maddy/Obito, they both proved effective against demi-gods.
Honorable mentions:
-Sasori (although his puppets were mostly destroyed and didn't have his body, he lost to Kankuro :L)
-Deidara
-Naruto (Valley of the end)
-Mei
-Sakura (pre-war arc)
-Dosu
-Obito - Not a top 5 because an effective counter was created to defeat him.
Top 5
5. Hashirama - I'll admit this one may seem controversial. That is because Kishi made it seem as if Edo Madara = Hashi. Then once Madara returns to his living body he breaks wood dragon like nothing, and freezes Hashi's movements (I'm aware the black rods were stuck in his back before he was revived). I personally believe in the theory that Madara stalled for time long enough for Naruto and the others to take down Obito. If Madara really got that much stronger coming back to life, then Itachi was a god since his edo self fought on par with KCM Naruto.
4. Iruka and Mizuki - They were made fodder since day 1 really. They were Chuunin and had episode 1 hype of being Naruto's teacher. Yet at the end of the episode Naruto laughably shits on Mizuki, who Iruka struggled badly to kill. Yet later on Genin such as Neji and Sasuke laughable diff'd Shadow clones.
3. Kakuzu - Could have destroyed Kakashi in the entire fight by just combining the fire and wind hearts. Has lived for 100 years, even fighting Hashi. Yet gets tricked by a shadow clone for the sake of plot. Sorry Zexion
2. Sasuke (Chuunin exams) - When he fought Gaara, his power increase put him on par with Rock Lee + even got Chidori. He was made to look like the strongest Chuunin contender there. Then not only does Gaara destroy him in round 2, but Naruto laughably shits on transformed Gaara. Despite Naruto's jaw drop moment when he saw Sasuke hit Gaara. GG Naruto, you managed to fodderize two characters on this list.
1. Killer Bee - When he was introduced he seemed like a god. In base he shitted on MS Sasuke badly. Then Kisame beats him, although he was worried about his comrades. Then he begins living in Naruto's shadow by the war. Remember when KB was relevant?
