The underrating of kisame is real. Lets look at kisame without samehada.
-still has more chakra than anyone without rikudo chakra.
-can still absorb chakra (he also absorbed chakra from Samehada while samehada was trying to get away from him) implying he can absorb at least at the same rate as samehada (6 tails at a time) as he took it against its will.
-can still regenerate himself (as when he healed himself after taking chakra without samehada and bees teammate stated Kisame converts chakra into stamina, not samehada)
-can still use a 1000 feeding sharks (and it only took 5 to make gai use 6 gates)
-can still use GSB which has an infinity amount of chakra it can absorb
-can still use water dome and has gills.
So basically samehada gives him range, makes him swim faster, and when they fuse both their absorption power combines, and it basically stores chakra so Incase kisame ever gets hurt and can't absorb chakra to heal he can take the stored chakra from Samehada instead.
