GET IN THE F*CKING ROBOT SHINJI. This dude hated his own son from infancy for not doing anything to 'deserve his mother's love' and ironically he was actually very similar to his own boy. Leaves him to his own parentless devices, only talks to him when he's using him in military conditions and actively puts him through psychologically damaged situations such as killing his own friend.

Was considering putting Sasuke on here but he's a bad husband, not a bad dad. Other than the time he tried to kill her (Sasuke tends to do that with those close to him) Naruto created Boruto's negative tendencies and i've gone into detail about how Naruto taking his son's headband publically was an awful thing for him to do. Naruto can understand and help the most evil of psychopaths, tyrannical mass murderers and Uchiha but the one person who gets no patience is his son who he put in this situation. He got over it in the end.

Kiritsugu to me isn't admirable or any kind of hero- but then again i'm one of these that believes Shirou had a more complex character arc and represents Kiritsugu's themes better than he does himself.

Lol Please don't bring up the travesty that is Shirou. Kiritsugu as a character runs circles around Shirou, but obviously I agree that doesn't stop him from being an absolutely shitty father.

Haha I thought i'd lose you there. Idk I love the themes of Kiritsugu but I think planting a chirpy preppy shonen parody in there to juxtapose it is more interesting. I like characters being put through hell ideologically, it's why I love Shirou and Shinji Ikari.

But isn't Kiritsugi defined by his suffering? He was put through hell arguably just as much as any other character in the series if not the most.

I mean when you killed your father, killed your "mother", "killed" your wife and daughter all for the sake of an ideology (the greater good) as you hold back tears of blood, only to find out later you did all of that to only create hell on Earth, killing more people, doing the exact opposite of what you pushed so hard for. You know you had it rough.

I'd say ging from hxh is a pretty proudly bad dad, well from what we've seen so far. Not top 5 bad I don't think considering the rest on your list but he's pretty bad imo(so far)

Ging is definitely a worse parent than Goku, and Naruto.

Both Gohan and the Senju sons grew up in a dangerous world where it was kill or be killed. They were tough on them to make them strong, so that they could fend for themselves when they weren't around to protect them. Being all touchy-feely and overly soft is all well and good for them now, but what happens when they're too soft in both character and strength to stop themselves from being killed in battle? It's tough love and the only way the parents can protect them and their lives for the long haul.

I think they're both just extremes who have to confront this fact, Shirou uses his father's ideology as a starting point and has his own ideology tested from there. Actually i'd say they're explored equally as much, just I prefer Shirou's story.

Okay Goku I could give to you but not Hashirama's father. He was just an absolute tool who gave into his world and raised children to spite the Uchiha and throw away in war. I get he's a product of his time but absolutely terrible father.
